I think we need to start issuing sarcasm meters around here. There seem to be too many people missing it lately.

...but....but....that looks nothing like this. They could have at least added the wide body fenders. In reality, that doesn't look to bad. Unfortunately, it will probably have the driving characteristics of a pillow.

It cracks me up that Toyota/Scion still continues to claim that their age demographic is the 20-30 year olds meanwhile the actual age demographic that will buy these cars will be the 40+ year olds.

Time to stop living in fantasy land Toyota/Scion.

Its cheap enough that they'll still pull a lot of first-time buyers. Just hopefully has more success than the xDud

Would also help this car if they finally do away with the xB.

20-30 year-olds are usually broke and in debt. There's no way anybody that young could afford a new car over $20k (unless you got rich mommy and daddies). Maybe if it is an entry entry bottom dog car like a $9999 Nissan Micra I can see a younger crowd getting into those. But I agree that the true demographic is usually a young family in their 30-40's with a stable career going after these cars.

I actually really like this car. It's like a Toyota Matrix but with way better styling. I'll definitely be looking to pick up a used one in 2-3 years time once the FRS is paid off.

I'm not saying the xB is a bad car, but its way past its prime. Bringing the iM to the market, which fits a similar purpose to the xB, is more fuel efficient, and newer, will be more successful if Toyota/Scion doesn't poach its own customers.

I bought my tC (previous car) brand new when I was 25, with the supercharger package, price out the door was ~$22k with tax. I wasn't the only one, so I think you're overstating the relative poverty of today's 20somethings.

Really just another practical car for the young family crowd and they will probably sell piles of them even in that crowed market segment.

As much as people like to dump on Scion, this car with it's metric shit ton of standard equipment and it's decent styling is going to sell. It's a good move for Scion.

As far as the handling and looks go, from the press release it looks like TRD lowering springs and sways will be available early. Also looks like the suspension is essentially the same as the TC so there will be aftermarket to clean up the handling and ride height. Body kits will follow. Wheels are easy to change out. I don't think it'll be difficult to get very close to the iM concept above with the production iM.

Looks like the new Camry had an affair with the Fit. This was their illegitimate child.

Better than the iA I guess....

I don't agree with this entirely for multiple reasons. First, the demographic I have observed driving more "expensive" vehicles tends to be the "younger" crowd. I can think of several possible explanations for this.

First, young people tend to live 'in the moment". In other words, they don't always make the best financial decisions. They live on the border of their means (or even exceed it). On the flip side, young single people might have the liquid cash to spend on more "emotional" purchases because they are not supporting a family. When I was 23, just out of college, my first purchase was a fully loaded Honda Accord EX. Almost 20 years later, I am buying cars that are 5-10K cheaper than a fully loaded Accord.

Certainly some of these young people are getting assistance from their parents, others have good jobs and few expenses outside of college loans and/or rent, others are living paycheck to paycheck, blah blah blah.

Long story short, what I have observed in person on the roads and what the actual sales figures broken down by age reveal is...that the older crowd are gravitating to these "cheap" cars while the younger crowd is chasing the "brand/status" vehicles. This is, of course, partly my personal opinion/observations.
