This is starting to get me frustrated. What do you mean "the tune will disable the cel code"? I literally have no experience with tuning but I want to install catless uel headers on my brz, so I will most likely get an OpenFlash tablet and install them both at the same time. I've tried for days to find a video or picture of someone tuning this car for P0420 and I can't find anything. Some people are saying "just delete the code" or "the tune will fix it", but obviously just plugging in the tablet will not fix the code.

Can anyone please explain or provide a link that will help me understand tuning for this code more? I've read both the tuning and exhaust stickies and they are still using those non-specific descriptions. As for tuning for header performance I'll probably just have someone at a shop show me how to do it, if of course they know how.

TL;DR - what do I have to specifically do to access the ECU and delete P0420 or any other CEL code? I will most likely use an OpenFlash tablet.

The stock ecu calibration or "tune" is set up for stock components including a catyltic converter in header.

If you remove this cat with catless header you will cause the ecu to set CAL light due P0420 cat efficiency.

a tune designed for catless header will optimise many settings for a catless header to make more power and it will also disable the cel code for cat efficiency so it does not light cel, more info is in first post in this thread.

If you buy an OFT it comes with tunes for catless EL and UEL headers and the cel code P0420 will already be disabled by the tuner no need for you to do it, just flash the correct tune and your done

Thank you, this is what I was confused about. Everyone was making it seem like the tune did all the work and I didn't have to do anything, but that seemed fishy to me. Do you have any recommendations on where I could go to learn about specific tuning terms and what they mean? I'd hate to blow $500 on a tuner and not use it to it's potential.

I appreciate the response.

Their is a bunch of pretty coloured words in the post above and below if you click on those especially the "OFT TIPS " one should be a good start :-)

If all I have is a Greddy SP Elite Axle Back Exhaust, and I'm just looking for something to increase the sound of my BRZ a little bit more would it make sense to put in a front pipe? I'm looking at a front pipe because I want to avoid CEL lights and messing with the cats, like most headers do.

Front pipe has a cat as well, but the O2 sensors are positioned around the primary cat in the headers, so idk if swapping it will flip a CEL. I've seen a lot of people on here go with a front pipe mod though with no reported issues so I think you'll be good.

Thanks, would that give me a better sound as well?

Deleting a cat will most definitely improve the sound.

you could do the oft/ofh combo deal $1055
http://www.openflashtablet.com/shop/oftofh2-combo/

or say gruppe-s header at about $470 plus an ecutek flash and go tune for about $600 think moto-east or deliceous do flash and go tunes for arround that.

if you want to start with tune on stock car then add header later then the oft might be cheaper as you get a set of tunes you can flash yourself for stock cars or cars with header on 91/93 and e85 fuels.

alternativly moto east do 4 fuel map switchable tunes for 91/93/E40/E85 but you would need to fit header first, also depends if you have local ecutek tuner to flash tune or you will need to buy or rent an ecutek cable to flash tune this will add to cost
