Considering the US median household income is about $51k, the number of families who can afford a $25k toy for their children to drive is a pretty small minority.

Today, no new damage on fr-s....why? Cause the kid knows we are on to him. Turns out he leaves early because he is in a work exchange program. Now I can pinpoint the time to the school so they can check the video at a specific time.
Yeah I am sorry to hear about this. I am assuming your kid goes to Lincoln Way West?

I could see kids being jealous and so they want to ruin somebody's day by vandalizing their car. That's why I didn't let my sister take my FRS to school.

I don't know if I was popular, but I didn't have any enemies or people out for some petty revenge. Yeah some people disliked each other, but nothing serious other than the typical shit-talking. I had a solid group of 7 or so close friends, all car guys, ranging from my FRS, to an s14, to an E92 M3. There were other pretty notable cars in the parking lot too, a couple of G37's, 335i's. No one touched them at all, just admiration and looking around I suppose. I think it was a golden rule to not touch anyones car at all. I honestly can't imagine someone damaging someone else's car, it's such a weird thing to think of from where I'm from. Talking shit about one anothers ride was always present, but actual vandalism is sort of foreign to me. Thank goodness I went to school where I did, hope you get to the bottom of this OP.
I think the reason why your car didn't get a ding....in highschool is because we are in CANADA

Sounds like a spoiled brat getting a sports car.

I would've killed for a pos 2000 jetta when I was in high school.

Now you're spending hours out of your day, a grown man stalking little kids in the parking lot… If I were the school I'd have police remove you from the premises.

when i was in high school a few years ago i was fortunate enough to have a mkv gti that my dad helped me get, and then i worked hard and bagged it on rs's (cliché i know), and what do you know it got keyed twice along with my best friends 08 STI and other best friends 04 R32. thats high school. Now i'm graduated college and have a career and all those kids that wanted to be funny and vandalize are still living with their parents, getting in trouble, and taking my order at mcdonalds (exaggeration, i dont eat mcdonalds ) .

OP those kids will be working for your son one day

@Turbo95eg6 Doesn't sound like a spoiled brat getting a sports car. His son is working hard throughout school as well as making money on his free time. Well deserved IMO. A spoiled brat woulda been the opposite of that. On top of that he did state that his son was driving that pos jetta for a while until it was starting to get hard to maintain/fix.

Also, he isn't stalking little kids @ a school/parking lot. He's just trying to figure out who's targeting his son/their car before it gets out of hand. It may be door dings at first, then a dent on the hood. Next thing it may be a broken window or slashed tires.

To discourage vandalism... Put a dashcam in... Call cops as needed. Also park in public, easily seen places, avoid bad neighborhoods and hostile environments.

Someone vandalizing another's property has no life nor is that person respect-worthy. You have nothing to prove to such a person. Avoid & ignore them and be happy.

Dear OP,
Don't worry about all the negative comments about your son being spoiled. I myself can relate to your son and I wouldn't be surprised if others reading this post would consider me a "spoiled brat" too.
I received my 2013 Whiteout FRS as a graduation gift from High school. Before I begin, I will go ahead and say that I come from a family that wasn't exactly in the best financial state. Just like your son, I worked hard for my grade which often conflicted with my part-time job, leading me to stay up till 3am three days a week with only 3 hours to sleep and get ready for the next day. Not only were my grades a promise to my parents, I was always honest and respected them. I never had any trouble with the law and always used common sense when it came to my actions.
Today, the car is a symbol of their trust towards me, proving to me that hard work in the real world is appreciated even if it is only by the ones you love. This alone continues to motivate me to reach for my dreams and even if I fail, I won't be alone.
Having such a beautiful car, friends and affiliates still call me spoiled, (which I totally agree) but I know many of them have never worked hard in their life. What bothers me the most, however, is when one has barely earned their diploma and unwilling to take the extra mile yet have the dignity to ask why it wasn't them that received a brand new car.
OP, I want to thank you for being such an awesome father and I promise that the trust you put into your son will pay off.
