If you're looking at Tig, you can never go wrong with a Lincoln or Miller. I personally have an HTP, never had an issue from her. They all are around the same, ~2-3k. I would recommend 200 amps for anything thicker than 3/8".

Everlast is becoming popular, I've heard mixed results. It's chinese so don't expect any help when/if it breaks.

I haven't posted much but we have been very busy getting a few parts ready for market. Trying to keep it hush hush until we have actual working prototypes but here is a teaser picture.

A few specs:

FEA testing is at 1.7G lateral acceleration (both compression and tension, above picture is tension), 3.5G bump, and .75G longitudinal acceleration... simultaneously. This is a HARD turn, while accelerating, while hitting a curb very hard on the track.

Material is aluminum, a complete LCA (adjuster, jam nuts, and rod end) is estimated to weigh less than 3 lbs, the lightest on the market .

The other product is something we have been working on for awhile. Finally have a nice package going and a prototype is being built soon.

Then onto an even cooler project for the FA20. Can't wait to dig my teeth in deeper and share more as we progress .

Prototype AOS should be to me in two weeks for initial product release and ensure the design is sound. Attached is a CAD photo. I have to get through SEMA first >< haha.

A lot more in the works .

Have you done any FEA for braking? I know it's the rear wheel and it doesn't see as much force as the front wheel does during braking, but braking is one of the highest (cyclic) loads that can be applied to the vehicle.

Yes, we did. We found that the combination of acceleration, turning, and hitting a track curb was much more "destructive" to the LCA model then 2G braking. We have ran fatigue analysis on the LCA as well in various scenarios. As you probably know though, FEA is just another tool in a very large tool belt. We have moved onto the prototype phase and will be testing the LCA on and off car next to ensure it behaves how we want before releasing it for the masses to use.

The absolute *last* thing myself, or anyone from Velox or FT86-Speedfactory for that matter, wants is to release a part that fails. Thank you for the thought provoking question, I enjoy answering these .

A few updates, these are prototype parts. Overall everything is working as designed and is being coated this week. A few small tweaks are necessary but that was expected, as with anything that is being produced the first time.

We have a lot more going on but I won't divuldge until we are further along and have parts in hand. We're hoping 2015 should be a fun year... fingers crossed.

Holy shit, did you guys just use a single ballnose endmill for that whole process? Holy cycle time, Batman!

We don't machine the parts in house. I'm not sure if he chose to do just the prototypes like this or will continue to do production in this fashion as well. It does seem like it would drive cycle time way up.

Initial pricing looks like we will be very competitively priced with other systems out there.

Well... I'm sick, too messed up in the head to do anything that required any thought process... so I'll update this. Been doing a lot of stuff lately, getting close on quite a few project.

First, AOS:

Back from anodizing. Waiting on laser engraving now.

LCA:

CAD model

Nearly finished on the mill. Testing to start once we get them back, hopefully a March/April production run.

Intake Manifold:
Been working on this for 6+ months. We finally think we have something that may perform well. Prototyping to start hopefully this month, we're still quite far from being completed on the project.

We have quite a few other projects that we are going to start prototyping soon as well, mostly suspension. A few other engine components as well .

Machined parts looks so nice! Sweet work man. That LCA is badass. A once piece part looks super sweet

I love this thread. I'm a ME who just recently graduated also.

I'm posting for two things:

1) Keep up all the hard work because I like what you're doing...

but

2) I can't SEE what you're doing because most of your pictures have stopped working. lol. Get them re-hosted or whatever needs to be done so I can see all your awesome progress! =)

Thanks! I can't wait to see it in person then test it to ensure it won't fail on the track .
