The Grand Budapest Hotel
Amazing! I will probably go see it a second time in theaters...it is that good. It was like visiting with a good friend that you haven't seen in a long time...great movie! |

Captain America was good, I liked it better than the first.
Grand Budapest Hotel is a damn fine movie though. Ralph Fiennes does such a good job hitting the balance of that character. |

Saw a couple of good movies recently.
Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10 - Awesome although a bit long. Even the wife got sucked in. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 8/10 - Nothing like I was expecting, quite good actually. The "daydreaming" they pushed so hard in the previews accounted for less than 5% of the movie and basically stopped after the first 30 mins.

My wife and I enjoyed Gravity even though she didn't think she would. I don't watch too many movies anymore - several recent TV series are better IMO because there's more character development and plot development. See Breaking Bad, Luther, Game of Thrones, much of Dexter, Sherlock, Arrested Development, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Hannibal... I could go on...
We have daughters 10 and 4, so most in theater movie watching ends up being kids movies. Adults and kids can enjoy Despicable Me 1&2, Monsters, Inc and Monsters University, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 1&2, The Incredibles... well, pretty much all of the Pixar stuff, lol. All that said, my wife and I watched "Enemy" last night with Jake Gyllenhall. Weird movie with a terrible ending. The lead up was slow but interesting... but the ending ruined it. I would not recommend it. Fargo the movie was good... and the TV series that just started has been excellent thus far. Same basic location and tone, but the story is entirely different.

Oh geez. LOL. I saw it, but I'm not sure I'd rank it that high.
The concept is about as horrifying as you can get, though.

Watched the first episode yesterday, at an hour long it's the first time since I was young that I've watched a drama that actually elicited a physical reaction. My hand flew to my mouth and I said "NO" with my mouth agape for about 20 minutes, so enthralling. I really don't watch drama at all but Fargo may bring me back in. I can't tell you the last time I actually cared about serious characters. Best $3 I've spent in months (streamed it from Google Play, Amazon also has it, since I don't have TV).

I think you would probably get addicted to Breaking Bad... The first mini season (6 episodes, I think) is good and it just gets better from there. Metacritic rates the seasons on a 1-100 scale: 74, 85, 89, 96, 99 http://www.metacritic.com/tv/breaking-bad/season-5 And I have been very pleasantly surprised by Hannibal. Frankly, I can't believe NBC has put something like that on the air. I think I'm beginning to prefer Mads Mikkelson's version of the character to Anthony Hopkins' version - which is saying something. Review of the pilot here: http://grantland.com/hollywood-prosp...-intelligence/ And I cannot recommend Sherlock enough.

The Hunted (2003)
6,5/10: Nothing special storywise, similar to 'The Fugitive' from 1993. Starring Tommy Lee Jones & Benicio Del Toro which made the movie watchable despite the meh story. lol this guy

![]() I've also heard nothing but good things about Hannibal (and as an aside True Detective). TV is so incredibly hot right now I can't imagine how movies can catch up. It's hard to beat a universe built over 10+ hours with a 1.5 hour window. After seeing The Office Martin Freeman gets a pass in my book for anything, Sherlock is just icing on the cake of wonderfulness. Honestly if anybody wants to watch a 1.5 hour anything, watch Sherlock, safer bet for a good time than any movie out right now. |

I've tried to explain to him that they've both honored the original stories AND modified them a bit so that even fans of the books will have something different to look forward to, but I haven't been successful thus far.

I was hesitant too since I liked the books (don't think I could 'love' them enough to not see any adaptation though, Doyle's kind of hacky). Literally the only problem I had with the first two seasons is they kept him clean as a whistle while in the books he is clearly a dope fiend, they addressed it in the third season. So very good. The first fifteen minutes of the first episode are gold, try to get him on the hook for fifteen minutes, that shouldn't be too hard of a sell, you can turn it off no harm no foul. It also helps that it's not a movie, BBC does quality shit nowadays. |

No kidding. Luther was/is also well done (the Alice Morgan character is deliciously evil). My 10 year old LOVES the modern Doctor Who series (and it is pretty entertaining and "clean" enough that we can let her watch it by herself). Top Gear, of course. Spooks is pretty good.
