I am participating in name calling? High sales numbers don't really prove anything other than it was popular. Nope I wasn't around then, I just recall what I heard from one of the Top Gear episodes.

It was arguably the first 'muscle car' in some people's minds since it was available with a four-speed trans and a 260 cubic inch V-8. Shelby just took it another notch up. The Mustang met the needs of a wide demographic.

Mind you, the 64/5 mustang was considered a "chick car".
Especially the convertible inline 6 automatic.

Gidget would have bought one if her dad had co-signed.
Had a very wide appeal.

A typical over-generalization. A sign of intellectual bankruptcy.

The fact that Ford Motor was able to successfully market the Mustang to the young female market as well as many other markets is a testament to their marketing expertise at the time. Note: The first Mustang was sold to an airline pilot and the Mustang was ordered with a V8 engine.

A car is a machine with a lot of artistic talent that goes into them, with many mechanical features and a lot of marketing. People buy them for variety of reasons. To Repeat:
Too many people buy things they don’t need with money they don’t have to impress people they don’t know.

You aught not let this bother you. As a very successful CEO, then sale manager, once told a salesperson when the salesperson learned he was to be responsible for a smaller market area, "Get Over It".

Worst thing...if the girls join in on it and it becomes a chick car...(note: not dissing the legitimate female drivers)

They really ought to stick to their 370z and G37s and leave the FT86 ALONE!!!

EDIT:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::

Since I repeatedly have to defend myself to every new commentor who find it time worthy to contribute to this stupid discussion...
1) I used the wrong word "hipster". I should have said mainstream or popular in general. I don't keep track of what kind of social groups do what... (or am aware of the rational behind their behavior).
2) I don't care what other people do or think. Their business is their business...I am just concerned about the car as this concept is something I really like and I don't quite understand (or I am a bit surprised) how popular it has (or is becoming) with people who are not car enthusiasts. Which in itself is not a bad thing...but there can be "ill" associations as well.
3) This post was inspired by the fact that the recent sightings ( 3 of them consecutively) of this car by me all ended up in surprise when I passed them by and saw the driver to be female and not the typical enthusiast looking kind. Although this is not true always, but girls ( at least the ones i know) don't care much about their cars...
It just made me think...wtf...has this car become the new fashion fad...the latest accessory to have? And that is fvk1ng all!

Thank you.

This is ONE of the reasons, not all, why male owners and especially young male owners who still have a need for that macho presence buy so much aftermarket stuff.

Hipsters don't buy new cars; they can't afford anything other than a secondhand fixie bicycle.

3) It is not important but I don't like the image of this car to become synonymous with something stupid. or popular among teen girls cause they think its a "cute car". Once again....it does not matter that much...just a slight "agh".
Man, you are just digging yourself a big hole aren't you?

What exactly do girls that are into cars look like?

What do guys that are into cars look like?

Lmao OP is a hipster because he is getting salty FRZ/BRZ is getting known. Not alot of people buy cars to mod it. They just enjoy the car. Not everyone buys a car to make it a racecar.

I hope every hipster buys one. And every poser, soccer mom, and old man.

If they sell enough maybe we can have more decent, affordable, daily-usable sports cars in the world. That'd be nice!

OP's logic

mainstream-hating hipsters supposedly buying niche-market cars thereby making them mainstream are hipsters and should be hated.
