*sighs* It's not the same to get all technical with a car that really hasn't came out yet. And for a person who joined this month, to already assume what this site speaks on, is ridiculous.

So c'mon let him be himself. Prefer not to get banned or anything

It's quite the lollercoaster. I would have moved on a year ago if it hadn't been so much fun around here.

its because people are retarded, there's always one idiot who wants to put 87 octane in a premium fuel only car...

its like when a prescription tells you not to drink while on the meds, but a small group of idiots do it anyways just to see what happens...

Why do you sound so angry? Why do you care what someone else does with their car? I really don't. They might be dumb but they are free to do as they please.

Question about the supposed requirement of 93 octane on BRZ. Since 93 isnt typical here (SoCal), will the MPG still be close to what they estimated in all those brochures they released if we fill up on 91?

Wait did you even read the posts in this thread? -_-
There's no way any major company would spec a car for higher octane gas than is available in a place like California, where 10% of the US population lives. It's probably 93RON, which is 89.

TL, DR (for maybe the 2nd time ever) sorry Thx a bunch for the prompt reply though!

89 sounds good. It's about $4.50/gal at Chevron/Mobil right now, which is I guess, acceptable haha.

I doubt they meant 89 octane. Pretty sure it's going to require "premium" with 12.5:1 cr.

As for 100 octane - woohoo! Agoura Hills is close enough - but, what the heck am I supposed to do with 100 octane?! . (best bet would be for me to mix it down at the pump w 91 octane... too much hassle, though my WRX would pick up a few ponies)

I mean at this point it's still speculation since this is supposedly the next generation D4-S system and based on what I've read the way the VVT is set up at low speeds is a big determining factor in the octane rating you need. I think 89 is possible, since if you look at the torque curve on the 2GR-FSE, they have very aggressive cam advance so that the torque reaches near maximum at just over 2000rpm, while on this engine you have to wait till 3000 for that to happen.

CR plays a role obviously, but look at Mazda, 12:1 compression ratio with regular. It's possible.

That said, I don't think anything over 91 is actually necessary, because car companies know that California has nothing over 91, and California is a pretty important market. It'd be great if 89 were the actual required one, as you could tune for 91 and get moar power.

"Race fuel" (anything higher than 91octane) in SoCal is only sold in the baller cities, as far as I know. Example, my cousin who drives a GTR drives all the way to Pasadena's 76 station just to fill up on that shit. He doesn't even "race" it, but that's a whole 'nother story I'll tell y'all at a diff time lolz.
