If your wastegate sounds off when you decel then something is wrong with your setup or you are not running a bov. During acceleration is the only time I'm hearing all wastegate (sound while he is in mid drift) The sound I am talking about is when he comes out of the drift and decel. That is a bov.

I'm assuming this is Ken Gushi's 2012/13 car...as I know Ken's signed already with Scion Racing for 2012.
RS-R has not signed, and I'm sort of shocked...since they've worked with Scion Racing and spent tons of developmental cash with tC program in the last several years.
I hope Greddy USA is up to the task, resources, and finances to keep this going strong.
Very cool to see this car already screaming about at Laguna Seca though!

Agreed. This is the most logical deduction. The Formula Drift team is getting the car sorted out for the upcoming season.

Turbo or not the underlying questionis :

Are in the interals forged or not? Basically crank, rods, pistons, this will tell us if the thing can even be force feed let alone if it can even handle 100 to 200 plus extra horses of power this will be the performance killer if it were not forged.

Don't forsee Gushi's FR-S having a stock motor with a GReddy setup on it. That motor is going to be built (probably not built at the moment). But when FD season starts, it will most likely exceed the stock motor power capability. They will probably be pushing over 400whp at minimum. His tC was 760hp out of it's 4banger 2az. And with the other FD cars running 600-700whp, it's going to need some punch to keep up.

Although it's cool that GReddy is building the car for him, it's hard to see how aggressive they can get with their applications in F/I. As their everyday street car setups they produce are very mild imo, compared to other Aftermarket F/I setups people buy. Like sitting a GReddy turbo next to a Garrett, it just doesn't look and feel like it has the same quality build.

Does anyone really doubt that an EJ would be the most proven/accessible option for this car as it begins to enter into these events? I'd be shocked to find out if anything other than that is in the car we just watched; if it aint broken, dont fix it.

Aren't there rules against that now? I don't follow drifting at all, but I seem to recall something or other about limiting engine swaps.

Subarus engines typically all have forged cranks and cast pistons. The STI comes with forged rods, WRX has die cast, and I think some of the N/A engines have sintered rods these days. So a forged crank is almost guaranteed, the pistons will be cast (but you'll want low comp replacements anyway), and the connecting rods will most likely be cast as well. Factory forged rods are possible, but not at all likely IMO.
