There are many things about fuel matching that relate to performance. Octane is only one, and unfortunately manufacturers have to design around the fuels readily available in the countries of sale(and this is Japanese info, not NA info). But if Mazda can do high compression with regular then Toyota may be able too as well! It does make sense that dual FI with direct injection will allow much more finely controlled injection relative to combustion cycle which may minimize some of the more traditional causes of knock. Obviously if there is more power to be had in a BRZ it has to be extracted somehow? Besides the numbers may only be quoted based on premium which does not preclude the ability to run on regular with different performance numbers.

We will have to wait and see how this plays out?

If turbo build. Intercooler + piping $1000, turbo $1500 (GT25), BOV (HKS SQV at home), Tial 38mm wastgate $200, oil lines & mounting & other shit. $ 500. Piston + Rod $1000. Total is $ 4200

Spec 3+ Clutch $500.

Labor : about 60 hours? $70 per hour means $ 4200

Total is : $ 16900

Do I have those much? No. 10K is my limit.

I doubt you'll ever do more than 1/4 of that list. Learn to do everything yourself and you'll save your $4,200. Skip a lot of the parts that aren't needed and you'll save more. Buy more reasonable parts in some cases and you'll save even more.

12.5:1 is retarded. You don't need that much for direct injection on a gasoline motor. And with that much compression they should be getting more power... something seems amiss.

That all sounds about right to me but the intake should be $100 less and the BBK is actually more than that for all sides.

Dang. You really had to shove a lot of Kanji into your head for that. I need to start learning some important ones.. or at least the 800ish they ask you to learn minimum. :x

Thanks for the info. Didn't realize that. I read a insideline article and they said it was 12:1 http://www.insideline.com/mazda/3/20...rst-drive.html

If he's going turbo he should be running a custom exhaust, not a bling setup. So that's about 200-250 in pipes and another 100 or so in a straight through muffler design. A lot less than 1k.

Most exhausts for this car that will be off the shelf type systems will be setup for the N/A motor until boosting it becomes popular.

He also didn't address the elephant in the room.. the ECU and finding a standalone to deal with DI.

Or wait for group buys.

Sure, for some stuff... I tend to buy the parts I know (through my own or others testing) will work instead of what's available in group buys though sometimes you get lucky though.

Also didn't address the turbo manifold, unless for some awesome reason an OEM EJ20 will somehow mate up.

If that works, budget turbo builds are easily doable.

Those are based on my EVO X parts. HKS intake always $400. $ 1000 is the price of HKS cat-back, nice quality down pipe and High flow cat.
