In other words, they're using this poor guy's car to beta test.

I would think this would involve fatigue testing (repeatedly applying load/given stress to gear and counting # cycles until failure) for the cam gears.. plus other tests (there are many types of tests that can be generalized as stress tests)

If this is the case they are providing you with new parts... but I also understand them doing post production quality checks on your brand new car is nowhere near reassuring...especially if this is as widespread of an issue (50-60 members on this board alone have reported)... you'd expect engineers to do their job before ever selling anything
Dang while I hope not, it would be nice to have the issue solved permanently and have a solution for all of us. That being said if my motor or car is going through that, and I find out tomorrow. I may pop my lid. So If you see a mushroom cloud in the south east of the country that would be me exploding.

Also thank you for clearing that up because honestly I just turn a key shift gears and press the gas. The rest is someone else job.

Wow, this must be driving dealers insane seeing these cars come back and they can't readily employ a fix for them.

Like most people I'm waiting for that eureka moment when they figure this mess out.

Car is now in shop... they still don't know when I'll be getting parts in, but honestly it's frustrating trying to get all this stuff figured out prior to doing heavy modifications. I planned on having my P&L kit installed over the winter months, but waiting on these guys to figure out the simple problems under warranty is killing me and will probably make me hold off on touching the engine bay until I get a lot more mileage on the car.

If that is what they indeed meant by stress tests... I hope they are handing the old parts over to a certified 3rd party (Certified Toyota USA engineers or flying over the technical people from Japan like they did with whiteout's car)... because I do not think that the mechanics at the dealership service would be qualified to run these tests and claim legitimacy behind the test results....

Plus if they are taking the old parts and running tests, they should provide you with the car and new parts installed, so that like you said, you can turn a key, shift gears and press the gas just like you did before all this happened (unless you have experienced the issue several times to this date)

They already made excuses (of a different nature) to other members to buy time, this might as well be one of them

Week later told car was fixed but toyota put a hold on the car but they had a new one coming from japan. Should take delivery next week. Spoke with scion concerning this issue and was told they were aware of the problems and that parts would not be available until oct.

Guys, I've been informed that SOA was told to take down the TSB regarding the Check Engine Light/Traction Control light. The TSB for Subaru Canada was posted yesterday and was taken down today.

I'm not sure if there is an alternative fix in the works but I'm trying to get more information before I take my car in for the mechanics to work on it. I want to know for sure what cause/fix is before they start working on it.

Does anyone know if its OK to drive with these lights activated?

POSTING RULES
While this idle issue may manifest itself as an initial dip, please only add your name if you have experienced a combination of the check engine light (CEL) and slip light (SL) in addition to the RPM hunting at idle (often severe shaking and stalling). The code your ECU should have stored is P0019 (also optional P0017, P0018).

Please post the following:
username, FR-S or BRZ, mileage of occurrence, last six of VIN (use XX for last two), duration of repair [3 weeks, in shop, etc.], location [state, country, etc.], other comments [repeat occurrence, items replaced, etc.]

Please let me know if you would like to see additional information. Also, please keep the postings on topic and for the list only. The "Idle Issue" thread is good for general discussion. Thanks everyone.

Yeah I feel you, although not full cash but close to half.

On another note another update. Picked up my crappy corolla this morning. As of 5:30 pm car is missing half of the engine. They still have no clue what it is; however the "super smart fr-s" guy from out of state is supposedly on the job now. The best part they think they fixed it but can't put it together and run it because the car needs some special coolant that they had to order . Really coolant that a dealership doesn't carry. I started to get a little pissed at that point and had to walk away.

here are the pics i snapped of my car in their shop.
