Installed NRG hub SRK-125H and NRG Steering wheel RST-036MB-S-SL. Steering wheel is very nice. I know NRG makes some crap but not this one very nice dark black suede and very strong and sturdy. Nice silver stitching to go with 17' interior.

Only a 2.25 lb weight loss from the 17' steering wheel.

Actually the stock wheel is nice size & weight with airbags and controls. I may switch back at some point. Had some free amazon bucks some this didn't cost me anything and its really nice wheel and hub.

I'm not showing how to remove the stock wheel as there are tutorials floating around on how to do that. Removing the airbag on the 17's was hard to find the removal push points, had to turn the steering wheel upsidedown as the turnsignal stalk blocks the view.
Also taped down that clockspring while I was working as it spins very easily once the stock wheel is removed. Be Careful

Stock wheel weight 6lbs

NRG wheel and hub 3.75lbs

Point of reference- I had to cut and splice the stock airbag wires. There was no way to get the connectors through the hub hole

One thing I don't like is the stock steering wheel hid this on the bottom of the steering shaft cover, now its exposed. I thing I can take off this cover and wrap in alcantara and cover up that exposed area.

After some crafty wire tucking got everything to fit. BARELY

NEW WEIGHT AFTER TODAY = 2526.25 lbs

weight Reduction Thursdays

Since I took out the steering wheel and my seats arrived today I figured why not remove the rest of the airbags.

Passenger Airbag : -5lbs
Useless brace under steering wheel : -1.5lbs
Side Curtain airbags: -6lbs
2 Chunks of metal bolted to rear roof : -1.5lbs
Total loss today = -14lbs

New Weight after today : 2512.25
Carbon fiber seats installed tomorrow!

If you need help let me know the side curtains are fairly easy once you get the headliner loose and the rear panels off.

The passenger airbag is a pain but I did it without removing the whole dash. I removed the glovebox and the whole glovebox surround. Which means you have to remove the center consoles and all of the center (hvac controls ect). The airbag is held in by 2 10mm bolts and it has teeth on the frontside and backside of the airbag. I pried the rubber around the teeth and pulled it down.
PM me if you get stuck.

Few cosmetic mods today installed Aliexpress $1 drift ebrake button.

Covered the face of the steering column cover in alcantara. I really want the whole thing covered but way beyond my abilities. When removing the stock steering wheel a lot of electronics show so I wanted to cover them in some way.

Exposed stuff stock steerng wheel hides

Covered now. Had to cut around the cover to do just the face. not perfect but pretty clean cuts. if I can find a company that makes covers I would buy from them

covered the electronics

@SuperTom
Nice progress on the build, read the whole thing.

Just ordered my DSS CF Driveshaft along with the jdm and Felix underpanels. Figure I’ll just get both done at same time and be done with under the car.

Next I’m thinking about the wrx bbk, how are you liking it? Did you notice any improvement in stopping power or is it basically stock level but half the weight? I know wrx has a bit more power and weighs 3300lbs so I think unless your pushing 300hp+ should have same stopping performance or better when it is applied to the wrx.
Also any drawbacks like more dust or corrosion compared to stock?

Thanks for reading. Do you mean Velox underpanels? I plan to make the remaining underpanels in Coroplast making them like the Velox ones. The rear one I made has held up great and the parts that are up against the exhaust haven't melted. Should be dirt cheap and lightweight

Love the wildwood kit. Not huge stopping but better than stock, of course my car is lighter so that helps too. If you are staying NA I would go for it, FI than get something bigger. Not much dust at all a little more than stock, they come with BP-10 pads which are fairly conservative, some dust no squeal. Compared to the BP-30 pads on my Corvette which were squealing and had major black dust.

Yeah velox* stupid auto correct lol. Thought about making my own but too much work for me. Does seem somewhat simple but getting perfect fit, cuts, and hardware would give me a headache. Will get the driveshaft / panels on in next few weeks. Then waiting for my stepdad to get time to help me with my fluidampr and fensport underdrive pulleys. Then rear seat delete and bbk are next in line. Possibly seats. Then saving for Supercharger.

Good to hear. My end goal eventually is a innovate or edelbrock sc kit, 7-8psi 240-250whp. But I have no time frame on that. Going to be $$. For now pushing NA as much as possible. I figure 90% if what I’ve done / will do will only benefit that much more with FI. I think 150lbs weight reduction even with 250whp the bbk should be good. Eventually I’ll do the rears if I need more stopping power.

Yeah I would not even bother with the brakes if you are eventually going FI. Save your money and get them when you go FI. Rear brakes wont do anything on these cars, only needed to match up with bigger fronts to keep bias neutral.

Remember I am building a lightweight as possible NA build. I am actually looking for lightweight rear brakes but there isn't much out there

Nothing major today just removed the trunk tire cover plate and a piece of foam support. Added in some black contact drawer liner stuff so I can use the trunk for stuff without scuffing it up too much sprayed it down with some adhesive. Lost 3lbs total!

Also took a torch to the tar back there. Hit for a few seconds then it easily scrapes up in big chunks!. The trunk tar is 1.5 lbs. Not tallying it yet until I remove it all from the car then ill bag it and weight it all

EDIT THIS EXPERIMENT FAILED! The passenger fan wont run without the driver fan hooked up. NO weight saved!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installed Mishimoto slim Fan kit. Same weight as stock but I went with just the passenger fan since the driver fan is for AC equipped cars (NO AC!)

-2.5lbs

New weight 2472.25

SToCK Fan kit 7.25lbs

Mishimoto kit with one fan 4.75lbs

installed
