This video sums up my feelings between the 2 when it comes to driving. If you never push the Z to the limit, it feels great.

More accurate to say that the Z was based on the G. Which is why it weighed 3300 lb. and has such a massively high cowl and is kind of bloated-looking, it's literally a 2-seat version of a luxury sedan...

That is an insult to a sports car, actually.

Chris Harris sold me my car. I owe him all that great time since buying my FR-S.

I've owned 3 Infiniti G coupes, a 2004 G35, and 2008 and 2012 G37s. Yes, they are bigger and heavier and therefore a different driving experience than the BRZ/86, but I can tell you from personal experience, they were awesome. In my opinion, and from the perspective of an enthusiast, those cars were the pinnacle of Infiniti's offerings.

The G coupe was an amazing balance of enough power and speed to be fun to drive, enough near-luxury to be genuinely comfortable on long trips, practical enough to be an only car, well-built and reliable, beautiful, and fairly priced (especially compared to over-priced, over-rated, less-reliable, and more expensive to maintain comps from BMW). Plus they were available with a 6 speed manual! I absolutely loved the G37 coupe. They were over-engineered in the way of 'old' BMWs (before Norbert Reithofer and others decided to cut costs and quality in pursuit of maximum profit). Infiniti targeted their cars not to extreme gear-heads, but to the "enthused", people who cared about what they drove and wanted something fun and different, but not totally hard-core. It was working, and then they lost their way.

IMHO, Infiniti lost its way by the mid-2010's. The G37 morphed into the Q60, which is a very different car. Too heavy, too flabby, saddled with too much unnecessary technology (like electronic steering by wire), and an anodyne typical turbocharged smaller displacement engine instead of the previous slightly rough around the edges but so full of character 3.7 V6. The quality is down and price has gone up, and manual transmissions are gone.

I would love to see a new 400Z that recaptures some of the spirit of previous generations of Z cars (or Infiniti's). But, with the combination of Nissan being in desperately dire financial straits, and the uncertainly of the new coronavirus future economy (except that it's going to be bleak), it's hard to see where they could find the money to do it. I certainly hope they do, and wish them the best of luck with it. But unfortunately, selling a small number of 400Z's to enthusiasts isn't going to save the company - they need mainstream offerings.

If and when this new Z is released it might not be sold in the EU.

It is on the same modular platform as cars with a longer wheelbase like the G35/37 and GTR, but it is bloated looking because of its short front n rear overhangs and round curves kind of like the Audi TT.

Nissan has built fugly for years.

And if they can't make profit from the Z car, not to worry, their halo is the GT-R.
That and another Z car and they're racing toward bankruptcy.

Oh, and didn't their former CEO, Carlos Ghosn evade criminal charge in Japan by disguising himself and sneaking out of the country?

Nissan isn't a company I'd be running to buy from, but for the longest time they have been very important for the development of competitive industry in Japan. This goes back to the days when they cooperated with other motor companies in developing products if only to meet govt. decree for advancement of domestic industry. We're talking about the years after the Prince motor company was acquired.

PS- I was massively impressed with an Infiniti G60S on the track. All he did was reduce his tire pressure and he was doing great. Like a better looking baby GT-R.

Edit- you are correct Irace, Q60.

I think you mean Q60.

Fugly has been a problem for many brands. Yes, I’m talking to you Toyota and especially about those Lexus spindle grills.

No, it is bloated looking because it is bloated. It has a very high hood and very high cowl. It towers over other sports cars. TT is another "sports car" based on a sedan platform.... Plenty of short-wheelbase cars with short overhangs that don't look like swollen bloated toads.

Which Miata? The NC or the newer ND? Because the NC Miata looks like a round pudd just like the 350z/370z and most cars from that time, but even the ND doesn't look much different from the side, but then again, the ND Miata has 9'' less wheelbase and 13'' less length, so it is not the best comparison, especially because it's length to wheelbase ratio is larger at 1.69 versus 1.67.

The GT86 has a flat engine, and the 4C and Evora have mid engines. None of those make for great apples to apples comparisons. Even with the said, is the Mustang-like muscular hood that terribly high?

The Supra (MKV I'm assuming) has a 173'' body length and 97'' wheelbase. The 370z has a 167'' body length and a 100'' wheelbase, so the Supra has an extra 4.5'' to each bumper (1.67 ratio vs 1.78 on the Supra). Extend the wheelbase and add some extra length, and the 370z and Supra wouldn't be different in hood dimensions.

I get the feeling that everyone sees the 370z like this...

And not like this...
