All the more reason to have alternate characters. I also wish they would give us more vault space too seeing as my weapon collection is quite large too.

The amount of time I've spent getting my Titan to level 29 is mind numbing, I can't imagine leveling up 2 more characters only to go through the whole "try to hit level 30 fiasco". With that being said, I do have a level 9 Hunter and level 6 Warlock. I know I could hit mid-20s pretty fast with them if I invested the time. I've already got complete legendary sets of armor in my vault for them...

Yeah it's all pretty discouraging I agree. I managed to get to 30 with only 1 raid piece but I got lucky.

I'm already stuck with the DLC but the only real reason I'm playing right now is to do the weekly heroic/nightfall to get more weapons that I don't even need or have the materials/patience to upgrade. Seems sorta pointless, I want to play but I don't have anything to do.

I can't really see 3 missions, 1 strike and a new raid keeping me hooked for another 2 months until the next DLC.

That's what I thought too until I tried. I actually found a very good strategy to quickly level up alternate characters. What you do is start an alternate and once you're done with all the introductory missions, go straight into crucible. You get far more XP losing a crucible match than you do playing campaign in about half the time spent. Also, since level advantages are disabled it becomes a matter of pure skill versus skill unlike PvE. Once your character hits 20, then proceed to the campaign. The reason you want to wait until you're level 20 to begin campaign is because loot acquired from the story is scaled to your level. This means that instead of earning white and green engrams now you'll be getting blue and maybe even purples for doing level 8-20 missions when you already level 20+. Not to mention you can use your primary character's crucible and vanguard marks to get your alternate legendary gear so that you have it immediately after you hit 20. This way all the XP earned from story goes to leveling your light as well. I did this process and I had a level 25 titan alternate within two weeks.

The hard part will be grinding PvP, especially if you don't enjoy it as much as PvE. I personally like the PvP aspect of the game more so it wasn't an issue for me. This is also how you can level up all your weapons by rushing through story with them equipped to your alternate.

You should be able to do the normal DLC raid at 29, I dont think 30 is going to be a hard requirement because there's so many people stuck like you.

But then you're going to have the same trouble getting to 32, especially if it requires doing the hard mode raid like the VoG.

I've read a slightly different way, basically you use either Crucible or Bounties to get to level ~10 as soon as they're unlocked, then you do the "hard mode"/heroic story missions since you're 4-5 levels above the requirements. Run through everything and only fight when you're in the darkness zones. The bonus XP you get from those missions will get you to 20 in 6-8 hours.

Not sure if Crucible is faster or not, how long did it take you?

A week in crucible got me to level 20. However, I played a lot....and I mean A LOT! I wasn't necessarily the best teammate either (played with friends). We would play control and I would camp a control zone and focus on getting kills because that gives you more XP. The level 10 strategy sounds like a good strategy for those who don't want to grind crucible for hours on end. It was bittersweet because I wasn't level 20 yet so I wasn't earning any cruicible XP or marks yet.

I do want to get my alternate characters leveled up and I know it will be so much faster now that I have a better idea of what to do and I could always run the regular stories with other people, then you can run the stories "quicker". Plus, getting to play a different character with different perks/supers is fun. A case in point, I originally didn't like the Defender sub-class for my Titan so I pretty much struck to Striker, that's all changed since I picked up my exotic helmet that when used in conjunction with Ward of Dawn causes any enemy who enters it to be blinded for about 30 seconds. Big game changer and I've even had a couple guys I've played with say they were going to start a Titan now just because of that perk/combo.

I really do like the game and I've gotten my moneys worth for sure, just right now kind of getting the blues about being stuck at 29. Believe it or not, I really hated PvP until I started grinding Iron Banner. Once I played with a team it made it much more enjoyable. Maybe because it was nice to actually win instead of getting wrecked every match like I was when I had to rely on match making.

Can you ONLY get to 30 by getting raid gear or can you get to level 30 from getting drops from strikes?

I've done the raid on normal something like 10 times and I'm not getting any equipment drops

raid gear is needed, but you can sub one spot with an exotic piece (which will also get to 30 light when maxed), or Iron Banner gear from the latest event (ditto, also gets to 30 light when maxed).

Iron Banner is the only reason I got my Hunter to 30 from 29.

If anyone needs to get the hardmode raid done tonight I would be willing to put a group together and help out anyone (level 29 or 30's) get through it and hopefully get that drop that they wanted! If it's your first hardmode raid then I would be more than happy to explain the mechanics of each encounter and let everyone have a try with the relic while at the Templar phase and explain the mechanics of the relic.
I'm usually on around 8pm est so just shoot me a message on here or on xbox if you need help.

I might take you up on both those offers. Got your invite the other day but I've been mulling it over as I'm already in another clan (ROR). But I'm not sure I like it, they're pretty nice but not very good lol. Every time I raid with them I have so many more wipes than with random PUGs from DestinyLFG which makes no sense, you'd figure the randoms would be worse.

* Dismantling unwanted Exotics
* Purchased from Xur for 7 Strange Coins

Exotics now start at a higher base Attack value and have a narrowed upgrade range to compensate

Thorn

Projectiles now briefly highlight targets on impact
Mark of the Devourer DoT (damage-over-time) upgrade increased against PvE enemy targets
Reload Speed increased
Magazine Size increased
Ammo inventory size increased
Stability and Weapon Handling increased

Bad Juju

Magazine Size increased to 8 bursts (was 5)
Ammo inventory size increased
String of Curses now also decreases the cooldown of your Super on kill
Adjusted effects to not block first person reticle

Hard Light

Stability increased
Perfect Balance upgrade replaced by Fitted Stock (increases maximum possible weapon Stability)

Suros Regime

Lowered total damage at the end of the mag on SUROS Regime upgrade to be more in line with the Glass Half Full perk on Legendary Auto Rifles

Monte Carlo

Stability increased
Range slightly decreased
Monte Carlo Method upgrade now also has a chance to fully charge melee ability on kill

MIDA Multi-Tool

MIDA rounds now have increased knockback against targets in both PvE and PvP

Hawkmoon

Send It upgrade (which was redundant) replaced by Speed Reload

Red Death

Rate of Fire increased slightly, but Burst Damage reduced to compensate

Plan C

Weapon Handling speed increased
Player Speed increased while Plan C is in hand

Pocket Infinity

Speed Reload upgrade replaced by Extended Clip which allows the option to increase magazine size (5 bursts)

Vex Mythoclast

Attack Power increased to 323 (from 300)
Base Damage increased, fixing bug we introduced in previous patch
Enhanced Battery upgrade by Extended Mag (this change still allows for a significant upgrade to Magazine Size, but less than before)

Invective

Reload Speed increased significantly, auto fires slightly slower

Ice Breaker

Send It upgrade replaced by Lightweight (which was redundant as Icebreaker already had maximum range)
New effects for enemies killed by Ice Breaker upgrade

Patience and Time

Snapshot upgrade replaced by Custom Optics (provides a lower zoom option)

Super Good Advice

Stability increased

Truth

Magazine Size increased to 3 (was 1)


Activities

Raid


Fixed an issue we introduced in a previous patch, in which Atheon did not correctly send 3 players through the time gates
Fixed an exploit where the Templar could be forced off its platform

Daily Heroic Story

Destination Materials now drop from completing the Daily Heroic

Bounties

* Removed the ‘Relic Hunter’ Bounty * Destination Materials now drop from completing the Daily Patrol Bounty

Vendors

Reduced Cryptarch reputation gain from Engrams, but reputation reward packages now have an increased chance for Legendary Engrams
Players will now be able to use Vanguard Marks and Crucible Marks to purchase Spinmetal, Relic Iron, Spirit Bloom, and Helium Filaments from the Vanguard and Crucible Quartermasters in the Tower
Xur now sells a new material, Exotic Shards, to upgrade the final node of Exotics for 7 Strange Coins
Faction Class Items (ex: FWC Cloak, Dead Orbit Mark, etc.) are now replaced by Faction Emblems in the rank-up reward packages from Faction Vendors

Technical


Networking fixes, which should reduce the instance of the Bee family of KTOs. Fixed an issue in which using Xbox One party chat induced a slower frame rate
