$25K, 22 MPG city, a relatively cheap interior, and no hatch? Sorry Toyota, I love the idea of the car but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Last few S2Ks I've seen have had females driving. They love 'verts.

Hatch is a deal breaker? Seriously? Why?

I love the $25K price, being in Australia, I estimate we'll see the car priced at $36-$37K + (or $40K+ USD). Man we get ripped off

^Yeah, I feel bad for other parts of the world. Even Japan... isn't a comparably equipped J-spec model a few thousand more when converted to USD due to the horrible exchange rate? Makes me think Toyota is letting Scion sell at a loss as an "investment" in Scion's brand image while hoping for global sales to compensate for that loss (apparently it will). The next NSX will be assembled in Ohio because building it in Japan will make it absurdly expensive to deliver globally.

I'm surprised USA is getting the FR-S for this cheap compared to the world. Then again the low demand for this car (specs-wise) in a HP-driven country is probably what's keeping the price low.

A hatch is a pretty big deal for me too and would make me feel very different about the car. With a hatch it makes the car so much more practical. after fitting tables and a big screen tv into my Supra, going to a trunk just seems like a waste of space.

Not into the FR-S anymore anyway... but a hatch (which will never happen) would make me reconsider.

I've owned a wrx (2007, bigger turbo, bolt ons, tuned, whatever) and can tell you that car was a blast to drive. I definitely see the WRX as a competitor as it falls into the same category as a sporty car that is fun to drive. When the automags start reviewing this car or compare it, what do you think they will compare it to? Miata (less power)? 370Z (more power)? Or what? You're going to see it compared to the cars listed above, and numbers wise, I don't see it being able to hang with many of them.

Everyone has said it's not about the power or acceleration, but let's be honest with ourselves, after a while, you will get used to the car and want it to go faster. If the acceleration didn't matter, why are there so many 500whp S2000's or miatas with 5.0's in them out there?

When I look at buying a car, I make sure it has some modibility to offset the feeling of being bored with the car. I don't feel that you're going to be able to get the performance out of the fr-s vs other cars in it's price range. Mainly due to it being NA, and a good chunk of them are turbo.

It just sucks that not only is it not as quick as it's main competitors, it's interior also pales in comparison (unless you're talking BRZ, but in that case, you need to bump the price up. How much? Who knows, but it's probably going to be 26k+).

But, I hope I am wrong and this car can make the power consumers want it to make quite easily.
i agree, i want the new engine to be modable and be like the k20 motor it can take a beating turboed and have huge gains.

But haven't we known it wasn't a hatch for a very long time? Don't get the whole complaint of no hatch at this point in the game....lol

Note on the Pure Pricing by Scion, last Saturday I went shopping to buy a car for mom at the local Power Toyota in Cerritos and saw this Scion iQ if remember correctly is like around $16K base price and it was marked $2000 off instantly. I guess Pure Pricing will only go so far but if the demand is not there, dealers will have to do something or take a "loss" (maybe just break even?) in order to get rid of the inventory. But probably not the case for the FRS.

The lowest APR rate on the Scion now is 3.25% with above average credit score so like someone had post earlier something about having debt is not a bad thing and not dumping a lump sum cash to purchase the vehicle. I agree to some degrees but wouldn't it be better to just pay cash and just put away rest of your money invest in I Bonds and earn higher interests? Or borrow money from 401K and pay back with interest that still goes back to your account? Just my .02

Credit unions may offer even better rates. My credit union is currently advertising a 2% auto loan for excellent credit customers. It's a no brainer.

When u get a loan from a credit union, how long before you have to start re-paying (start making payments)? Is it immediately the next/upcoming month that you start making re-payments to the CU?
