My cousin went shopping for a Hyundai Accent this week so I went along for support in case he got taken advantage of. So it was me 5''9'(150 lbs) his wife 5''0' (105lbs) my cousin 5''10 (300+ lbs) and the salesman 6''1 (350 lbs). Now here is the specs on this car.

2525 lbs curb weight
138 hp
123 tq
1.6 liter GDI engine
6 speed automatic with manual shift

Now we all went for a test drive and I couldn't believe how that car propelled nearly 1,000 lbs of humans in a kind of adequate fashion. It didn't feel as lazy as my GF's Honda civic with a similar P2W ratio. Modern technology in engines is amazing!!! Then it got me thinking about the FR-S real hard and I realize with a engine .4 liters bigger with a lot more power and torque and a curb weight 200 lbs heavier. The FR-S would be brilliantly quick enough especially being a modern tech engine sports car and not carrying more weight than me and my GF.

Me and the GF in the FR-S equals 3050 lbs with 200hp/151tq
vs
Me and everybody in the accent equals 3450 lbs with 138hp/123tq

I still can't believe the Hyundai accent had some almost adequate(It would've been adequate without the lard asses) balls with over 900 lbs of people in it with such a puny output. I think the FR-S will be more than enough for me.
I agree with you, but let's not forget that some cars "feel" quick. That doesn't mean that it really is. I remember that one of my friends way back in HS had a Toyota Tercel hatchback. It was the bargain basement version and it had 4 on the floor. Man can I tell you stories of how we used to blast around the hood. And let me tell you that car felt fast. Sadly a girl we knew had a Pontiac Fiero GT and she'd dust us so bad that it wasn't even funny. LOL

Thought I'd just add that...

Nothing at you SUB, but I found that statement interesting as we called cars with those specs "muscle cars" just a few years ago.

So the BMW 335i and Infiniti G37s are also muscle cars right?

Oh I know. The accent wasn't fast but it didn't feel like a civic either. It was adequate. I believe that the FRS will feel and be much quicker than the accent by a good margin.

lol @ SUB
Don't mean to be offensive, but as someone who hasn't owned a car before (thus hopefully unbiased), a muscle car seems to me to have this connotation of poor engineering and outdated tech/styling :P That's just what I get from listening to people try to classify cars.

Not to hash the classification of cars again but I don't consider the Mustang or Camaro Muscle Cars. CTS-V and 300/Charger SRT8 (,Taurus SHO?) are the closest modern american interpretations. The Mercedes 65 AMG models are a probably the best modern example I can think of off hand. It was always the bigger the car the bigger the engine the better it personified muscle car.

I noticed the new GT500 has 650hp now, however I still "just" consider it a seriously hopped up pony car.

a 200mph stock pony car is impressive

muscle cars to me have always meant big engine and affordable (aka non supercar) price

ZL1
GT500
Most SRT8
etc

200mph is meaningless in the real world. My FD is theoretically good for it, no way it will ever get there (should be good for 180-185 in the standing mile, though, which I intend to do).

There are exactly ZERO modern pony cars [waitaminute, there *is* one: Genesis Coupe]. The Mustang and Camaro used to be 3200-3400 lb. pony cars, now they're 3600-3800+ lb. muscle cars. Challenger is 4000+ These are giant, heavy, barge-like sedans scrunched down to be less practical 2-doors, without being small or lightweight. Stupid.

If $55k was affordable to me (at ~4x median US income it's not), there's no way on God's green earth I would consider a ZL1, GT500, or any SRT8. There are much better options for going fast for way less money, if you don't insist on brand new...

So muscle cars to you are sedans? Now thats a whack definition.

The mustang and camaro are pony cars, but they will always have heritage of muscle; no need to discredit them.

Muscle cars *are* 2-door sedans. Pony cars are (were) much smaller and lighter-weight coupes. Modern Mustang and Camaro are way too big/heavy to be pony cars ( to me).

And yet both the mustang, the camaro and probably even the challenger would wreck a GC around any track or on any straight you put them on. Not even in the same league, can barely contend with the v6 variants. How's that for stupid. As a matter of fact, find me another car that's CAPABLE of going 200mph like the GT500 or contain as much performance technology/can put up evil nurburgring times like the ZL1 and still keep a facory warranty for 55k. You do that and I'll turn lead into gold for you. You give enthusiasts a bad name hating on cars you've never even come close to driving before. Yeah, CLEARLY weight is EVERYTHING and the absolute end all be all for vehicle performance, that's why the Veyron SS is 4400lbs right? Because, slow. Clearly. Whatever, haters gonna hate.

It's funny that you guys see the GC as a pony car when that term is really used for American cars only. The GC isn't design like them either.
