This allows us to move any VM between datacenters with no interruption. We literally leave DRS in fully automated mode and let our VMs water-level between the geographic locations. Did I mention that we are 99% virtualized? DR is a thing of the past. It's the greatest.

I've got 15 years experience, a VCP5, MCITP:Enterprise Admin, MCITP: Messaging Admin, even my CCNA, but... no college degree!

I'm 37, and yeah I'd flip burgers for a living if it paid the bills.

lol owns
HDS > EMC with VPLEX

That's likely the direction we will move in.. right now our storage is a mix of EMC VNX2, NetApp and NIMBLE storage SANs. We are some early adopters of NIMBLE stuff, they have some lab SANs named after our SANs (which are named things like "honeybadger").

We aren't that big, but a lot of VMware, Cisco (network and voice), etc. Using PernixData for local acceleration of VMs for reads and writes, multiple data centers, etc but far less users. About 400 users.. and 400 servers.. we are a SaaS business mostly now.

We brought Nimble in, they were iSCSI only at the time, so that put them right out, but I really liked their product and the local Salesforce/SE guy in our region is just a hoot. The company seems great, I have to wonder which storage vendor will buy them up?

I'm not a "storage guy" (I just manage it for our org), but distributing IO duties between datacenters via VPlex is so easy. We tried to get Hitachi out to showcase HDS (we essentially wanted to see all vendor's metroclustering solutions), but Hitachi's salesforce seems almost nonexistant. They didn't seem to do much directly, and the VAR they referred us to kept trying to sell us NetAPP.

Then that VAR tried to showcase Cluster-on-tap with NetAPP's SE. We laughed them out the door.

I can tell your IO demands are simply more than ours. We actually downgraded from some VMAX 20Ks to a couple of VNX 5700s when we refreshed. Had I known what a pain in the ass storage processors would be (VMAX and VPLEX use directors) I would have pushed for a VNX2.

Weird on Hitachi. They always call me at least twice a year. I have them come out once every couple years just to see what's new.

Gotta give them credit, they've been in the game longer than these other guys.. a LOT longer.

I don't think I ever actually introduced myself, and I'm too lazy to go back and check.
I'm 24, and the lead industrial designer/engineer for a food processing plant. We turn legumes into the food you love... So next time you eat taco bell think of me.

Yep, you pretty much nailed it. When you go to Chipotle to consume 5 pounds of pinto/black beans, I am at least partly responsible for the pants-shitting destruction that ensues... We're taking over the world one anus at a time.
