heh, well,Staying in the "past" isn't such a bad thing. After my AWESOME S14, i progressively spent more and more on cars..and felt progressively less emotion toward each car...I believe the FR-S with it's Unbeatable price to fun ratio will finally bring me happiness again ..lol

Hello all! I am in love with this new fleet of cars, and am particularly interested in the BRZ as a future first-new-car buy. As of current, I am about to be 19, finishing up senior year in high school, taken three years of auto shop, and am going to Lincoln College of Technology starting July 23rd for my Automotive Technology with Associates degree course. My goal there is to maintain at least a 3.8 GPA as well as 98%+ attendance rate so that I will hopefully be hand-picked by BMW or Mercedes to be a technician for them. After about 10-or so years of saving up money, I wish to open up my own business such as RE Amemiya, Tomei, HKS, etc. Building exclusive cars for an exclusive group of people such as ourselves.

I own two FC RX-7's, an '87 Sport (crashed May '11) and an '88 GXL (still in the works of getting ready to drive again). I have an unrelenting passion for the RX-7 and the rotary engine because of the fact that they were both designed with out-and-out performance in mind. Built for true enthusiasts who appreciate what true performance feels like. This is the same reason why I have fallen absolutely in LOVE with the new 86 in the past few years. I feel like this car will begin a new movement in creating small, fun, affordable sports cars, and begin an era similar to what we saw throughout the '80s and '90s.

My personal preference between the US spec versions of the 86 will be the Subaru BRZ. I first imagined it to be the Scion, but at the end of the say, you are still saying "I drive a Scion." Another factor that drew me into the Subie is the fact that the spring rates allow for a more track-dedicated set-up from the get-go, with a higher rate in the front and softer in the rear compared to the FR-S. I hope to own my very own brand new BRZ within the next three to four years, after I have been working enough to be able to bring one home and start making it my own.

For now though, I will sit back and patiently watch as others find out what they can about our new favorite sports coupe, and when I enter the game, I will be well informed and ready to build my interpretation of what I call a perfectly well-balanced street friendly track car.

Here is my photoshop of what my first basic plans are for the car when I do own one, I know it's not as good as some of the extremely nice renderings on here, but hey, I like it

Hey everyone. Just joined up. The name is Ray as you could have guessed.

I currently drive a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII. It is slightly modded and my daily driver.

I have been active in the local car scene and on Evolutionm.net for a handful of years now. Although recently I have gotten sick of many of the people.

But I am obviously interested in buying an FT-86 chassis car. Still undecided on all the details and have a lot of reading and test driving to do.

Is it semantically correct to refer to all three as FT-86 chassis cars? Since they are all built on the same platform by two different manufacturers?

Also...I am looking into the Toyota GT-86 greatly. Will this be available in the states or will this only end up in other markets? Will the United States just get stuck with the FR-S instead of the GT-86? Or will our market actually get all three vehicles?

Look forward to learning and seeing this community come to life once the car comes out!

Hi Ray, welcome to the site!

The chassis is actually referred to internally as "AS1", but the public hasn't been using this to refer to the cars.

US will get the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ, but no Toyota version.

Japan's version will be the "Toyota 86."

Everyone else will get the "Toyota GT 86."

^ Awesome! Thanks for clarifying those for me.

Guess it's the Subaru BRZ Limited for me then! Gonna have to jump the Mitsubishi ship and go Subaru in this case, haha.

I can't wait to get a hold of this car and auto-x it from day one to learn it in and out!

Keeping my eyes peeled on here for all info. Glad to be here!

Good morning everyone. Just coming in to say hi.

I've put down a deposit for an FR-S at my local dealership, so I thought I'd join to keep up on any changes.

What's up?

Hi Everyone.

I've been browsing the forums here for a while and finally decided to join.

My name's Rob. I'm a 23 year old Software Developer in Durham, NC and I love Toyotas (and Scions now, I guess... ). I've owned 2 6th Gen Celicas and a 7th Gen Celica. I have a feeling that the FR-S will be 10x more fun than any of my old Celicas.

Here's my old celica that I converted to a Gt-Four replica... All show, definitely no go. lol

Just saying hi... I'm hoping to learn more about the FR-S/GT86 from these forums and hopefully one day I can contribute some useful knowledge.

Peace!
-Rob

Oh wow really? That's pretty cool to hear.
And from all the positive comments and reviews about the FRS/BRZ/86, I think it'll be a sure winner

What mods did you have on your 14?
