Well, that's what I read when I googled if you can polish satin paint at least. I'd rather not risk it and just skip the polishing step like I did prior years.

Gotta raise an eyebrow to that. Never heard of being unable to use a polishing compound because of a certain type of paint.
Aren't you just polishing the clear coat anyway? How does it matter what color the paint is and if it is a tri color/pearl paint or not?

Not 100% sure, but I read polishing satin paint, like matte paint, can make it blotchy and ruin the finish. I'm already worried enough on using swirl x, and turning whiteout into crystal white pearl. hahaha

I don't think we actually have what they are describing as "satin" paint. Satin White Pearl is just the Subaru name of the paint. Scion calls it "Whiteout".
I believe it's just a name, not a descriptor of the technical type of paint used or application method.

SWP does look more matte (not a whole lot, but noticeable) in finish than CWP. I remember parking a '14 whiteout next to a '15 halo, and could tell the difference.

The difference is because CWP is a different color. I am fairly sure Whiteout/SWP is just a different color of the same water based paint Subaru uses.
As far as the clarity/shine difference, maybe different products applied to the clear coat by the owners.

I was looking past the color difference (I see more blue in CWP than SWP), and was comparing the glossiness of each since I always wondered why Subaru used the term "satin" for the whiteout. |

If it was chemically a physically different paint (and thus application process), that would be a huge added expense to Subaru's manufacturing process. I highly doubt they would be OK with that considering all the penny pinching that already had to be done on these cars to get them to the price point they wanted.
Also, it would mean that every professional detailing company who's ever done a paint correction on a Whiteout/SWP would be in the wrong and have actually marred the car's finish. Quote:

Good point on the second half tho. I think I'll still play it safe and not use my Deep Crystal Polish on the FR-S. |
