Got a call from my local this morning. 21 month wait for a GTS Manual. 2 years is just way to long. Series 2 will be out then and probably a turbo as well.

werent they going for a 4 year cycle? 2 years is too short a product run for a car in such demand, and hey if they do change it to a new model you'll be put onto that model because once they launch a 2nd gen they arent going to make a 1st gen just to fullfill the orders they'll just put the existing orders onto the 2nd gen waiting list..... its what ferrari does when it launches a new model

I don't understand why people 'who were on the fence' (or a little bit over) about the 86/BRZ, just didn't go and put down the refundable deposit??
It would have at least secured you for one of the early allocations of the car.

Plus if you didn't like the car, you always have an exit-plan on the contract:
Subject to finance(to your PERSONAL BANK, *not* a third party)
Subject to test drive.
Subject to satisfactory pricing for the customer.
Subject to your SO. lol

FWIW I put down a deposit for both 86($1k) and BRZ($5k). Am glad I got one of the early ones too :P

I can do better things with $3k (what I was asked for for a BRZ deposit) for a few months than give it to them for a car I might not want...

Now that we are hearing the BRZ is all about options, not even sure what the hell they would be putting your name against for a pre-order, my guess is absolutely nothing! At least with a Toyota a GTS is a GTS, just have to name your colour. BRZ on the other hand could mean any sort of combination of leather, sat nav etc etc etc...

So just went to big rock Toyota.. For 2 reasons... 1 being I think the Znelbok's statement of 21months wait was total BS and 2, because I wanted to check out some other colours... So anyway sales guy said 8 months wait and IMO the black 86 looks ok, blue looks great... Not that it matters because we all think different but from what ive seen I think white looks best then silver, red, blue,black... Ain't seen the orange or asphault so can't throw it in there... I usually love black but not this type... Maybe I'm wrong and I was looking at the asphalt?
As for waiting period maybe eastern states have longer wait but I couldnt tell.. I still think Znelbok is full of BS.... Lol.... 21 months.... Come on

Edit: Sorry OP didn't mean u.. Have edited...

My dealers here repeatedly tell me that they have got over 3000 orders for them already, but say the same as you. 8-9 months.

Still better than the year wait the VW golf boys had to wait....

I'm getting the asphalt, look great at night under moonlight because the rims blend in with it.

Called up my dealer too, orders are being pushed back but the wait won't be 2 years, I'm hearing 8-9 months at this stage. I'm realistically expecting my car in Feb/March 2012, ordered it last week.

People make up all sorts of reasons/excuses to justify and defend. First its LOL you put money on something you don't know the price of, now when they can't get it they will say LOL I'll get next years with all the kinks worked out, then when it will be LOL i'll get the next gen with more power than you.

In reality a lot of people like to talk but never intend to really commit, which is why a lot of aftermarket companies are hesitant to produce parts for certain cars and why we should embrace the boom surrounding the new 86.

Look basically.

Everyone that put a deposit down won.

Easy.

And I won. I won so hard.
