Yes but you do it without touching the throttle. You rev match by allowing the appropriate amount of time in neutral, with the clutch out, for the revs to fall to the correct rpm for the next gear. Then shove the clutch in and put it into that gear.
It's hard to believe it will reap any benefits on a car like this but I do it on some down shifts just for fun, using the throttle of course.

If the clutch ever fails, as in loss of fluid or a broken cable, double clutching is how you get home or to a garage. Start it in 1st and slip it into neutral just before you stop and turn it off, ready to restart.
You have to get it perfect with no clutch operation but it's better than leaving it or getting it towed.

Well, I've read quite a few complaints that the gearbox is notchy in cold weather. Second gear is usually the biggest complaint. How long it stays notchy probably depends on how fast the gear oil warms up.

i have the exact same problem. I absolutely love my FR-S however, I will never be completely satisfied until this issue is fixed. I live in Montreal aka we have very cold winters and it is nearly impossible for me to down shift from 3rd to 2nd...i have to force it in which cannot be good...ive brought it to the dealer 3 different times and im sick of their excuses! everytime they say dont worry its running beautifully or ur on warranty so no need to worry if anything every happens its covered...id rather fix this before something happens!

I found my problem was I was to tense in anticipation of it grinding and I was making the problem worse. I found that using 2 fingers and letting it do most of the work is very smooth. The first couple shifts are you need to be careful though.

On a seprate note. Is it just me or does the Flywheel/clutch make a rediculous amount of noise when your revs are low I.E. rolling a stop sign?

Yep. I usually leave it in second. Could it be because the transmission is right below me so I can hear things better and I've heard Subaru's a notoriously loud. I just think it sounds odd

Clutch or gearbox noise?
The gearbox is Lexus, they are notoriously quiet.

Next question: Is this your first manual?

Because wtf are you doing leaving it in gear? No wonder

I'd assume because it's a bitch to downshift to first (which you shouldn't do until you're stopped anyway) and creeping in 2nd during traffic is way easier. It doesn't sound or feel pleasant though.

He is talking about rolling to a stop sign, thank gosh he isnt trying to force first. Just take it out of gear if you want the chatter to stop, if it doesnt sound healthy it probably isnt.

At least you are getting the part of letting the shifter do the work for you, though it sounds like grinds have already been made.

Where did this fallacy come from? Of course you can change into 1st gear while it's moving, it's just another gear and happens to be the lowest one.

Where is the mechanical logic that you have to be stopped to select it?
