If you've read this whole thread you'll know I'm changing to Subaru bigger bearings on the front. Trouble is, the Sti bearing is off a four wheel drive car so needs to be clamped up through the centre of the bearing.

Easy, just get a couple of CV joint kits yeah..

Just slide the CV joint in and torque the nut right...

Wrong.. too much weight and the CV will foul most aftermarket coilovers from memory? So, they need to be machined..

Guess the warranty is void on these CV joints eh?//

It's been a while guys, but I have been busy.
I decided to do some work around getting the engine in the way I want it. How do I want it? Low and back!!

So, first up, here's my dummy engine build mated to
My gorgeous Samsonas for the first time.

I wanted to check my xmember work would suit so it all had to be fitted in, which wasn't easy if I'm honest.

Still here it is, 65mm back and 20mm down.

Note the lovely billet dry sump from Hypertune in Australia. Note the gearbox mount is a tacked in scrap set up to get the position of the mounts only. I will now make a mock up of the rear face of the gearbox and build mounts from that.

Thanks for looking.

Oh my god. This is car porn!

Is it the lovely gearbox that makes it possible to mount the engine that much lower and further back?

Is the Samsonas sequential?

Thanks Tor, comments like yours inspire me!!

It's not the gearbox that allows the move back and down, more a combination of going dry sump and a boat load of work on the crossmember and engine mounts.

This will improve weight distribution and lower the c of g. I can't wait to drive this little monster!! Next I need to make the gearbox mount and also make the turbo manifold out of my existing JDL one. It won't fit under the crossmember now, gets in the way of the pump pulley and won't fit around the dry sump.

Here we go, I've made the dummy back plate of the Samsonas 'box so I can bolt the standard mount to it then bolt that to the dummy X member I tacked in last week. Now I will tack the dummy back plate to the body then cut away the dummy X member and make proper mounts that fit the dummy back plate.

Why you ask?? Well, it saves me having to keep putting the engine and tranny in and out of the car. It also stops the tranny getting scratched and covered in spatter.
