DRL Delete DIY

I agree with hating the pee-yellow stock FRS DRL. So instead of disabling the DRL altogether, I got 68 LED white LED for replacement.



They cost me about 30 dollars. It runs the LED at full power at all times. High beams are basically useless IMO however. But at least they look cool, which, lets face it, 99% of mods are for "looking cool".

EDIT: Ok, maybe not 99% LOL. The high beams also are rendered useless, I believe, because all 68 LEDS are not a concentrated beam of light. This causes it to scatter in odd directions. http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-68-SMD...cfe284&vxp=mtr

yea those definitely look better than the stock DRLs, but i still prefer keeping my high beam functionality as it's a good way of communicating with drivers. right of way usually isn't enough for people to navigate stop signs correctly.

True that. At least at night, with your low beams on, the DRL stay off, so you can still flash if needed.

DRL's shut off by Hollywood Toyota Scion and the alarm chirp turned up the max level 7...so now I can actually hear when I arm the car.

I was going to make a DIY for it. Just didn't get around to it, maybe tonight.

Did it to my car and took less than 15 min. Eliminated the DRL but kept the high beams to alert/communicate with other drivers and help brighten dark roads.

You can see in the pics on the first post a small rectangular vented panel just next to the area of plastic this thread says to remove. If you pull gently this panel will just pop off. Depending on the size of your arm you can just put your hand in there, the drl resistor plug is immediately above the panel.

You can carefully unplug the resistor, wrap the wire around the harness and tuck the end against the frame. This took me about 1 minute, required no tools or supplies, and was totally effective.

If you look on the back of that access panel there is a nice Subaru logo (on my NA FRS).

A big thanks for this tip. I just installed the LED DRLs in my FR-S (the ones that go where the fog lights would be) and wanted to turn off the factory DRLs without a trip to the dealer or having to disassemble the car. Your tip worked perfectly...opened the panel, unplugged the cable, taped it up and put the panel back. High beams still work as expected but no DRLs and only a few minutes to do it, no tools required!

So i saw earlier in this thread some of you were having issues with your power mirrors not working after deleting the DRL. I have not done this to my car but after attempting the DIY radar detector my DRL and power mirrors no longer function... Has anyone been able to resolve this?

No issues here. Just simply disconnect the plug and you're good. DRL is disabled but maintained high beam function.

Replaced the DRL Relay today with the Napa AR6034. Worked like a charm. Thanks all for the info.

Disregard the red circled. I borrowed this picture from another thread. Working from memory but I'm pretty certian its located in the spot circled in yellow. Anyway it is clearly located by using the schematic underneath the lid to this fues box. Looking for DRL Relay
