Don't you need like a background check and/or a license to hold on to those?

In 2008, Max Fisher of the Atlantic reports, about 12,000 Americans were killed with guns.
How many do you think were killed in Japan that year?
11.
(Yes, that's 11. Not 11,000. 11.)
And as Fisher points out, 11 gun deaths made 2008 a bad gun-death year in Japan. In 2006, 2 people were killed with guns.

I like guns, but guns kill people. America is a great example of that.
I only know of one friend with a gun collection. They are all from WWII and can not be used! :p Not aware of anybody with guns and machine guns around here. I know of two hunters with rifles, but that's it.

Hon, he lives in Texas. The only thing he needs a permit for is concealed carry.

If you're interested at all in owning a firearm, a safety class is a good place to start. Firearm safety can't be stressed enough.

It's interesting seeing some of the international views on firearms. In the US there is a great deal of controversy over it with many different views on regulations and which ones should be banned but one thing is for sure, the government is not allowed to take all firearms away from private citizens since it's in our constitution.

It's also funny seeing ignorant statements like "guns kill people." You have no idea how a gun works if you say that. I'm sorry to be so blunt about it but I've grown up with them. They are not point and shoot like cheap cameras.

This statement is just wrong. None of my guns have ever snuck out of my safe, loaded themselves and killed me or anyone else. People kill people.

Ive been in the army.

Its easy to say its an ignorant statement. Technically the statement is wrong. Its not the guns that kill people, its people with guns. Someone have to pull the trigger.
I could specify more. Crazy, stupid, mad, insane, psycotic, highly depressed angry, afraid, protective etc etc... people with guns kill people. The higher amount guns out there, the higher probability someone who should not have a gun in their hands gets one.
Its just easier to say, "guns kill people" even if the statement is technically inaccurate. Its the person who pulls the trigger that kills people.

All in all, more guns leads to more deaths. That is a proven fact. Its easier to pull a trigger than to attack someone with a knife and stab them many times.
Hence the classical statement "guns kills people". Because more guns equals more killing. People could argue back on forth of the definition... There are valid arguments from both sides in my opinion.
A more accurate statement would probably be. "People kill people, mostly with guns".

If some wants to nitpick the other way. Its not the people, its not the guns, its the bullets coming out the the guns.. :p
Guns are fine, you only get a problem when you combined them with bullets and a lunatic..

And talking about bullets. This is funny!

But, lovely collection guys! I hope to learn as much as I can if you guys are willing to teach or to give little tips here and there.
You don't need to take a class, just need to take a test. You can download the gun safety study guide here:
http://oag.ca.gov/firearms/hscinfo
Study it, go to your LGS (local gun store), take the test, purchase a firearm and wait 10 days for background check/cool off/waiting period. 18y/o for long gun, 21y/o for handgun.

If you want to start shooting, get a Ruger 10/22, you will have it for the rest of your life! Cheap (price) reliable rifle, no recoil, lots of aftermarket upgrades and the ammo is ridiculously cheap. It's a small caliber but you can learn a lot from it for very little money while having a blast.
