why isnt it though? you say they can be fwd like the smart car. you say they need to be two doors like the smart car, you say that the horsepower varies which doesnt exclude the smart car. just explain to me why it isnt a sports car.

The smart has a RR drivetrain but it's classified as a city car, a sports car does not have a high CoG like the smart does. It has a high CoG and virtually no horsepower, even with you put a GSX-R engine in it, driving it is still a crap shoot. |

Fiesta ST is a lovely car for a great price.
If you need to carry more than one passenger frequently and love to drive, get a hot hatch. if you really *really* love to drive, want to track your car or even just value proper sports car looks, I think the twins have far more potential. Focus ST, Golf GTi and Golf R - same thing. Great performing, all around cars - I've been walked by a Focus ST on the highway - and they all handle really well too. Great as they are, I'd get bored of the FWD performance dynamics within a few months, nor do any of them offer much in terms of HPDE potential (speed, fun and reliability over full, multiple sessions). I had a Clio Sport R27 which i sold for the precisely the fWD boredom reason even though it was a razor sharp handler and bulletproof on the track - much more so than any of these Ford or VW hot hatches. Just too boring. Priorities. That's all.

Only a blind person could appreciate the looks of the Fiesta ST, if you want a turbocharged hot hatch from Ford, go for the Focus ST, otherwise get the BRZ. Same goes for the Fiat 500 (even if it is the Abarth) - fugly. The other cars may perform well, but, they look like they have been hit with the ugly stick.

I think it's funny when people complain about the twins being unable to move anyone/anything around. Several times I've put my wife, 10 year old and 4 year old in the BRZ. Is it tight? Sure - especially for the 10 year old. But she's the one that requests that we take "daddy's blue car" - because it's fun.
On the other hand, I'm 5'4", my wife is 5'5" and the other two are kids... Others may not fit quite as easily as we do. My wife's Saab 9-3 and our Accord Coupe provide other options, but the BRZ is primarily for my fun and travel for work. |

While I like the driving dynamics of the Fiesta ST ... in the end it was still a Fiesta.
The whole car just felt cheap. Shifter was rubbery and cheap to the touch. Interior bits made it feel economy car first, and sporty second. Also Ford's goal is to overload everything with technology... which works for most consumers but given our niche market interest, never really impressed me. I guess I like the FR-S over it b/c the FR-S was purpose built to be fun and sporty. Where the Fiesta ST is still a mass volume econobox. |
