Here's MY novel... LOL
New to the modding scene? Well, I started working on cars when I was 13, way back in 1983. I had two older brothers who had race cars, when I turned 16 I bought a 1969 Mustang and immediately started modifying it. I have built several engines for it, along with a few transmissions, rear ends, brake upgrades, etc. I've also had a little Suzuki Samurai that I modded(rebuilt motor with upgraded head, exhaust, modified the intake manifold with different carb, aftermarket transfercase gears, lift kit, lockers in both ends), then it was a Suzuki Sidekick which I did the same thing to. When I was in college I helped the manager of the auto parts store I worked at build 2 stroke outboard motors for GP boats. I had a '93 5.0L Mustang that I rebuilt or replaced pretty much the entire car(built the motor, rebuilt the T5 tranny, rebuilt the rear end with different gears and differential, upgraded the brakes & suspension, headers & exhaust, sound system, upgraded the cooling system, etc.) I've also got a 4Runner I've rebuilt the motor, put in lockers, headers, aftermarket exhaust, built skid plates, etc. for it. Along with working on my friend's race cars along the way. Heck, I've even "modded" the 5HP Briggs & Stratton motor on my pit bike with Jr. Dragster parts....(: So, no, I'm not exactly "new" to the modding scene. What's your experience with the "modding scene"? I would probably guess I've been "modding" longer than you've been alive. So I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about the effectiveness of this scoop. I'll just stop now. I don't think we're going to change each other's minds about this.

My very 1st mod at 1200 miles since new was a TRD intake and my 2nd mod just a few days later was a custom made enlarged snorkel... The increase in power at the top end (5000rpm to redline) was very noticable with the enlarged snorkel. I thought "no way" was the stock snorkel so restrictive at high rpm's on a stock motor... but let me tell you, IT DOES RESTRICT! To confirm, I reinstalled the STOCK snorkel to the TRD intake and top end power suffered and the engine felt like it was running out of steam... as it always did since new... BUT NOT SO WITH THE ENLARGED SNORKEL! With my enlarged custom snorkel, power delivery was smooth and linear all the way to redline WITHOUT any power loss like with the stock snorkel. And yes, the ECU was reset after every modification and given time to learn. Again, this was on a bone stock FR-S with just a TRD intake running Cali Unocal 91 super, nothing else. |

Mine showed up yesterday. Might be a little while before I install it though. Got a ton of mods backed up and waiting to go on.
