I have seen the M3 loose a comparison: to a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0. The Mustang tied it on the 1/4 mile strip 9 times out of 10 and beat it the 10th time. And around the track (Willow Springs I think) it only lost by 1/10th of a second. The $25,000 price difference pushed the comparison into the Mustang's favour. 9/10ths of the M3 for 25k less (this is in terms of on-track, not luxury or ride quality or any other metric). The Mustang also gets better fuel economy.

Thats all a numbers game. The driving experience of the two are drastically different.

likewise, from all the initial reviews of the FRS/BRZ, this car is going to be a contender...
Because the press likes to ride BMW's **** so bad? Not denying that it's a great car, One of my fav manufacturers too, but they've been doing it for decades. Should be scared how close the "purveyor of Beige appliances" got on their first try.
Of note is also how far and away a car it is from what it originally was.. and not in a good way.

It's like they're trying to develop an Apple-like cult of 'line up around the store to be the first on your block to get the new iThing even though the one you have is still perfectly good'. Or something. They don't want them to wait, they want them to trade into the dealer ($$$ for the dealer) and buy a new one every year ($ for the dealer and $ for the manufacturer).

Problem is maybe Scion forgot that their car is a teensy wee bit more money than a new iPad.

I suppose.. but yeah.. that's rough on a car versas an iPhone.

For the first time I actually upgraded my iphone right away.. granted my iphone 4 was dropped and kicked many many times resulting in a completely shattered screen and a loose microphone connection, but still

And my iPad2 Vzw 64GB only cost me $46.. if an iPad3 were to cost the same I'd "upgrade" after just a year too lol

from what i've ready thus far on the upgrades planned for the AS1 cars from the manufacture it seems they plan on giving the customer variety. more than that you're getting parts approved for use by the company, which will save your new car warranty and not void it. no matter which way you go they're be plenty to choose from, and that's a great thing.

They could make a case for it depending on how they value the trade. There are people who will want the latest and greatest and if their annual 'cost' (on top of whatever payments) is a reasonably small difference between their trade value and the new vehicle they may go for it.

Kind of like the people who perpetually lease, except on a smaller time-frame. Maybe?

Also could work because the Release Series market is different than the enthusiast market who just wait to own/warranty gone to tear into their cars.

Remember that Scion is an 'experimental' branch of Toyota for trying different marketing and product exercises.

I was going to start a thread but I did a first and found this thread.

So what do you guys think Scion will offer on the first Release Series FR-S..??

The current tC RS-7.0 has this: http://www.scion.com/rstc/

Fill in the list as to what you think it will have.

1- TRD body kit

2- Push button start

3-........

If the FR FRS is just aesthetics for the first few years, then I'm TOTALLY fine with them coming out. Now if its performance upgrades every year then I would be pissed. I had a feeling this would be happening and that is the only reason why I want to lease this car, so that I can get the better one when ever the contract is over. And of course if there is one that I really like I will keep that one and just buy parts to mach performance on the new ones that come out.
