these cars are pretty mechanically simple compared to a lot of other cars on the market that are heavy on gizmos and electronics. should do fine, but then again anything could go wrong. playing it safe on the side lines for the first few years.

A quick question to those with a better history than I do, but what first generation car from Toyota/Scion and Subaru have had problems? I'm not talking about drastic changes in performance the following year, but overall quirks.

the first batch of GR WRX STI's had issues and i think there was a recall for the WRX of the GH generation as well.

Well the better question then is, did Subaru sort it all out with that year's production? And have all the cars repaired, etc?

def wasn't trying to attack you dude. unfortunately that's kinda the crowd around here and the crowd associated w/ the auto enthusiast scene. either you're in the know or you're not, and if you're not others will let you know in the least diplomatic of ways. fortunately there are some with patience and understanding that not everyone has as much expertise or knowledge in one area or the other and a healthy dose of self esteem where they don't need to go around belittling others for what they don't know. on the flip side when it comes to mediated communication, specifically in this environment you've gotta have thick skin. :happy0180:

As for me im not scared to buy the first version/model that comes out. I see myself as sort of a pioneer if i ever had the chance. I would love to start the first batch of DYI mods and give detailed write ups to help future tuners. Id like to do these things to help out the enthusiast community improve, even amongst a sea of faulty parts.

When i went to automotive schooling after high school I was still way over my head in tuning. Owning a rx7 really turned me into a full fledged mechanic because it forced me out of my comfort zone. Now that im more comfortable taking a car apart and putting it back together, and have a few years experience, training, and nice cars under my resume.

What im more interested in however thats more selfish is getting the top of the line models..hopfully with more performance..eg STI or TRD models.

man, if i lived in Seattle i'd be trying to hang around when you're under the hood tinkering about in an attempt for some of that know how to rub off on me. i've always been interested in becoming more of a gearhead, i just don't know many people that do it.

first thing you gotta know you're going to break something trying to fix something else at some point...

i remember the first CAT i fixed... i broke a bolt connecting the down pipe to the exhaust manifold, i hate when stuff rust welds itself to something else... my worst nightmare

now i can do valve alignments, changing cam gears, changing rod bearings, all the fun stuff
