Odd that in Canada the semi-auto CZ-858 is an Un-Restricted class firearm (easiest to get in Canada), but semi auto AK47s are Prohibited (basically illegal unless you have some fancy grandfathered paperwork...), and the CZ is basically the same thing with a slightly longer barrel (18.5"), but better made, more reliable and more accurate. (and in Canada all mags in Un-restriced guns have to be pinned to 5 rounds)

Hahaha thanks I feel honored. So I am a total gun noob but regarding something like the CZ-858 that is semi auto couldn't you theoretically change it to a fully auto gun if your town was being under attack by zombies and you wanted the fully auto feature? Or is that not possible? I'm sure it is highly illegal to be in possession of something like that but if your town is about to be attacked by zombies, why not? |

But from my understanding full auto isn't really necessary, as it is inaccurate and generally wasteful of ammo. The thing in Canada with the 5 round limit is that they are just 'pinned' full capacity (30 round) mags. And the pin takes 2 minutes to drill out (for when the zombies come). But a semi-auto AK47 in Canada is basically illegal. Go figure... I'm thinking about getting a Polytec M305, which is a $500 Chinese M14 (the gun they train with in the beginning of Full Metal Jacket) clone, that are actually of not bad quality, except the stocks. It can hunt pretty much anything worth eating in BC.

^ Yeah I agree that full auto isn't the best when you are being conservative with ammo. I have learned that much playing FPS games.
But when the zombies attack it is a nice option to fall back upon. But I guess a 2-3 burst mode would be better and more efficient especially if zombies are wearing body armor. Are you looking at a gun for hunting primarily or to protect your home/family? Ever think of a shotgun? |

However that Polytec M305 is a semi-auto rifle in .308 Win/7.62mmX51 NATO (but I have to look into whether .308 Win hunting round primers are safe in it, may get into reloading too), with a lot of 'tactical' options available. The mags are 20 rounds pinned to 5, and the round will knock down a moose or black bear. So it would totally be no good for defense. ![]() The CZ is my second choice, but it is worthless for hunting, as almost all the ammo available is Czech military surplus 7.62mmX39 Soviet in FMJ, which you can't hunt with. It is a 'civilianized' version of the Czech military's assault rifle. Basically just semi-auto instead of select fire and the barrel made to Canadian Un-Restricted 18.5" minimum spec. We can even get them with bayonets and tactical folding stocks from the factory! Again totally no good for defense... Silly Canadian gun laws...

Wow interesting. I knew Canadian gun laws were stricter than ours but didn't realize it was that bad. One more thing I learned today. Btw, how much did your course and gun permit cost you?

And that is just the courses and exam fees. Now that I have taken my 16 hours of training (each), paid and passed my exam, I am ALLOWED to APPLY for both my hunting license (easy) and Possession and Acquisition License (PAL). Which takes them an extensive amount of time to process, and is one of the few things that they take the reference checks very seriously. They want ex-significant-other details that go back 3 years (I think, I'd have to check the forms). They are required by law to contact your ex, and if he/she says that they are not comfortable with you owning a gun, no gun for you! They also check mental health and financial situations too. It also costs more money, but I can't remember the fees off hand. It's pretty brutal. But sometimes I wish they were this strict when handing out drivers licenses... (Almost back on car topic with that last sentence!)

This is ENTIRELY for self defense. Cheers for Florida Gun Laws! :happy0180: ![]() ![]() ![]() I bought this a few months back from OnPointFirearms in St Pete Florida. Just had to show them my FL drivers license and they placed the order. 4 days and $2800 later I picked it up, accessories and all. I just shot my A3 this morning. Zero'd it at 100 yds and then played with it at 200yds. Rifle is smooth. The midlength does make for a smoother shooting weapon. Not a big difference but nice nonetheless. I love the way the rifle looks and love the front gas block and sight. Having an adjustable gas system is definitely an upgrade from the A2. Most people probably do not need it but I think that it is just one more evolutionary step for the piston AR. |
