The Accord, idunno, it's honestly one of the best looking sedans on the market right now until you start breaching extreme prices. I can see what you mean about Mercedes'ish, but most Mercedes are ugly until AMG gets slapped on, the CLA and A-class are great examples of this.
I understand the lower trim stuff. VW has been notorious for making their base trims look bland, and they like to save the nice headlights for top trims. At least Japanese cars have more standard equipment.

Base vs GLI vs Civic vs Accord vs Mercedes Coupe for comparison

I actually vomit at the sight of a CLA, and VW as a brand is bland, besides the Arteon, the sweet sweet Arteon.

Civics are actually the same when it comes to their standard equipment on the sedan. On the hatchback, at least in Canada, it appears to be a little more confusing, but also higher base price.

All examples here though definitely sport the same kind of mature side profile, but I can't say it's that welcome on a Civic when the rest of the vehicle doesn't look as lux as the Accord it seemingly follows after.

My sentiments exactly about VW and Mercedes. We considered the Tiguan for the wife, yet only liked the SWB R-line, but got the Audi Q5 and glad went up class. I’ve never been a fan of anything from Mercedes, except a few model like gullwing or GTR.

Yeah, I agree that it didn’t turn out as good as the Accord.

Honda Offers First Look at All-New 11th Generation Civic Sedan

https://hondanews.com/en-US/releases...on-civic-sedan

Quote:
April 14, 2021 — TORRANCE, Calif.
  • Inside and out, all-new Civic is a modern expression of Honda's human-centered design philosophy
  • 2022 Civic Sedan readied for mass production at Honda plant in Canada
  • Popular Civic Tour returns for 20th anniversary of the concert series
  • More information, specs and assets coming April 28

Honda offered the first official exterior look at the production 2022 Civic Sedan today as preparations for the start of mass production near completion at Honda of Canada Mfg. in Alliston, Canada. Previewed last November with the Civic Prototype, the 2022 Civic Sedan is the most fun to drive and technologically advanced sedan in the model's nearly 50-year history.

Inspired by the timeless design and human-focused values of past Civics, designers and engineers prioritized Honda's human-centered design philosophy, which maximizes the total environment for the driver and passengers, while minimizing the space needed for mechanical components. The goal is to increase the driver's ability to enjoy the car safely. The result is a sporty new look and an all-new simple and sporty interior that advances essential Civic values of uncluttered design, simple ergonomics and exceptional visibility.

As Honda gears up for Civic's arrival in dealerships this summer, the Honda Civic Tour returns on April 28. For its 20th anniversary, Civic Tour is going virtual this year, with two tour stops. The April 28 headline event will be live streamed on the Live Nation Channel on Twitch and the second stop will be live streamed on the Honda Stage YouTube channel this summer. Starting at 5:00 p.m. PT, the April 28 virtual concert event on Twitch will also give Civic Tour fans a special first look at the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Sedan around 6:00 p.m. PT, leading into the performance.

As previously announced, the all-new Civic Hatchback will follow Civic Sedan production by several months. Details about Civic Hatchback, to be manufactured by Honda in the United States for the first time in its history, will follow later this year. The Civic Hatchback will be built at the company's Indiana auto plant.

More information about the all-new Civic Sedan, including photography, video and specifications, will be released on April 28.

This looks more like a fastback sedan than a hatchback. It doesn’t work for me. Maybe it is because it is a compact. The Accord, the Audi A5 Sportback or A7, Mercedes sedans, etc all work for me. This, the Kia Stinger and some others don’t work. I would get the standard sedan, even if the hatch has more utility. Actually, I would probably get the Accord 2.0T sport, if I wanted a Honda sedan.

That's exactly what it is.

The backend is the only saving grace of this car. They are trying to use reverse psychology this time around. People were too polarized by last gen rear end, so they tried their hardest, but then looked at the front and went "why not make it a budget looking Accord? Brilliant. Don't forget to add some weird proportions and we're good to go".

And in with all the journalists: "The new Civic looks great now, toned down, more bland, more mature, I'm still not going to buy one though because I'm probably going to buy an Accord, an actual *adult* vehicle". So why not aim it at the younger generations ???¿¿¿¿???¿¿ The K5 looks great and has a radical design for example, front end at least, rear not bad.

I'm not a fan of the way the roofline meets the trunk on these hatchbacks, paired with the long hood the car looks odd and too long to be a civic. I think if they really wanted something this big and long they should have made it a wagon instead. It would have better head room for rear passengers, increase the storage capacity and pull off the length much better, while making the Type R a Japanese CTS-V. That would have actually been cool.

It's actually possible to design a car that's aimed at youth that isn't f*ck-ugly. Unless young people only go for sloppy panel lines, chunky fenders and fake air vents.

Pretty sure the main demographic of the Civic isn’t young people. The median age is 45.

Quote:
Civic buyers are primarily men (58%) but this aligns with the Compact Car segment average (57%). They are younger in terms of median age (45 years vs. 49) and they are wealthier in terms of median household income ($80,625 vs. $74,387). The Civic attracts higher numbers of Gen Y (those born 1977 to 1994) and Gen Z (1995 and later) buyers (43% vs. 36%).

Price and practicality are the primary drivers for a compact car purchase, especially for Civic buyers. J.D. Power data shows that 78% of Civic buyers identify themselves either as a price buyer or a practical buyer, compared with 65% of compact car buyers. Not surprisingly, fewer Civic buyers prefer to buy a vehicle from a domestic company when compared with the segment (37% vs. 42%).
