I am the third owner of my 2013 Ultramarine FRS at 85,000 miles. I've encountered a few problems over my year (about 10,000 miles) of ownership.
-Crickets -Window Seals, my window has the scratches from the bad seals -Window screeches when rolled up at the last 5% of its travel, goes away and comes back (its like it her telling me that its that time of the month if you know what Im saying) -Leaking oil, cam plate leaks and I got another leak but dont know where, Ive got a small few drips of oil underneath the car after you drive and let her sit for a bit. Not much to notice at the dipstick when i check every week. -The normal dents and scratches (These panels will dent if you look at them the wrong way and dont apologize) -More Crickets -The recall which I still haven't done and still dont know if I wanna do. -Bought the car with no working radio or interior lights, 2 $1 fuses fixed that (haggled the guy $1000 just off that, lol) -Stripped a wheel stud (seriously switch to ARP) -MORE CRICKETS -The pinch wields or "jacking points" are the worst. They have bent, flared out, and are rusting. -The Sway bar endlinks are a PAIN to remove, they rust weld and if you dont have the proper tools you are better off just cutting them off. -MoRE lOuD CrIckEtS Nevertheless I love this car and am happy to deal with these issues. I drive this car year round in North Jersey with its horrible drives and massive potholes. Waiting for the day I get smacked by a drunk driver or a hit by a soccer mom in her Suburban because "she didnt see me" Last edited by Little Mt. Fuji; 04-02-2019 at 10:18 AM. |

Mine's a 13' that I got in March 14'. I have about 45,000 miles in it. I've been in a car accident (someone smacked the side of my car on a roundabout). Ever since then, when I open the door it beeps 5 times and sounds like I'm breaking into it. Recently the driver side door lock only responds when it feels like it. Replacing the battery in the fob didn't fix it and the door unlock/lock button inside the car won't work unless the car is on. It's annoying as hell but is what it is.

I have a 2016, bought in October 2015. 89k miles on it, mostly freeway commuting (35mi, one way).
The body and suspension are holding up quite well. No squeaks or rattles. Plus, a year ago, I ran over a big solid chunk of something, hitting it hard enough to pop the tire and crack the rim. But the suspension seems fine. Both testaments to Subaru's focus on rally and off road cars, perhaps? The drivetrain has not been so good. Crickets that are controlled by using ONLY Chevron. TOB had to be replaced at about 80k. VVTi rattle at 3400~4000rpm. Uses oil at a rate of 1qt/3k miles. I REALLY wish Toyota had taken a bigger interest/share in this joint project by supplying the engine/transmission in addition to just the engine controls... Oh, well. Count my blessings, first world problems, yaddi-yaddi... |

2 weeks into ownership of my 2013 FRS. Just hit 46k miles.
Seems to be a pretty good example of a 6 year old "hoon" car. Paint is holding up well so far. 2 very small dings on hood. Likely more to appear without explanation soon. 'window indexing' puckers the rubber seal. Makes me cringe to watch it. Cam plate oil leak. Sometimes lets loose a couple drips when driven hard. Front end knocking when cold over washboard bumps. Heard it's likely the bottom engine splash guard? 'Rustling leaves' sound from rear passenger side of trunk area. Only noticeable at highway speeds. Seat material (suede?) shows wear EXTREMELY easily. I guess will budget to buy some craigslist take-outs in a couple years when the bolster fabric chews through. Otherwise, I can't compliment the car enough. Really, truly an amazing entry-level, budget tier sports car. |
