FYI, the BRZ comes with a lighter crank pulley than the FRS (1lb), so IMO BRZ owners are better spending money elsewhere.

FRS owners will see a slight performance improvement for the $.

That says a lot to me about the quality to expect from the TRD unit.

I'd be pointing to your clutch, and its viscous (compared to stock anyway) engagement, as to the cause of the noises you are experiencing.
When you get your trd try and see who really makes the unit. I'm willing to bet its just another off the shelf exedy unit. The trd may not chatter because its heavier than some of the lightest flywheels. I had my flywheel and clutch cover assemble balanced by a pretty reputable speed shop (r&l engines in Dover). Fwiw, they said the act setup was almost perfectly balanced out of the box.

I really recommend anyone doing their flywheel and clutch to get it balanced as a unit so it doesn't vibrate under load at speed. All things considered, I really couldn't careless about chatter at idle.

If this is your car then I can hear what sounds like gearbox rattle.

Install your TRD and let us know if you hear any noise. I'm genuinely curious.

Viscous engagement? Not sure I follow.

This article explains why a lightweight, single-mass fly can rattle. The TRD uses a single-mass design so it'll be interesting to see if your results are any different. http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/flywheel/gear_rattle.htm

Agreed on the balance check. I must have been lucky since my HDSS+Prolite didn't add any vibrations. Either that or I simply don't notice them.

The rattle doesn't bother me, either. It sounds like a proper gearbox.

You have a point. When I received the toda clutch and flywheel for the ae86, i saw the clutch was just a rebranded exedy. Which I'd paid almost a grand for through toda, and could've gotten locally for $400.

Agree on your comment on getting the unit balanced as a whole.

To be clear, wasn't dogging the act unit. Have not used or looked into whether they're good/bad.

That is my car. That was a test day right after it was tuned and still NA.

I thought the noise you can hear was the exhaust resonating/vibrating at a certain rev point. You could be right though.

I'll definitely review the trd unit once its arrived.

So I love my ProLite flywheel. There's a lot of gear rattle, but I'll put up with it. The engine revs a lot faster, rev-matching/double-clutching is easier. It's funny because while my downshifts have become smoother due to better throttle blips, my upshifting took some time to adjust because of thefaster fall-off. And it's not that much easier to stall either. Seriously, this is how the car should have come from the factory. Aside from the noise, there's no reason not to go with the ProLite. I wouldn't even bother with the StreetLite.

The CF driveshaft is butter smooth as well. My mechanic managed to nail the proper clocking first try. No humming or vibrations.

I've seen it several places, but here's one source.

"The PERRIN Performance Crank Pulley is 4-pounds lighter (5-pounds for Scions!) than the stock crank pulley.

When i bought mt toda flywheel for my TA22 (with a 2TG) the local toda rep said their clutches were just rebadged exedy units and to buy the exedy unit locally.
