I think I like the sleek look of the 86/FR-S/BRZ over the retro styling of the Nissan IDx.

The 510 looked just like a Lada to me. That it became a racer/rally car was coincidental to availability AFAIK. The Lada was based on the old Fiat 124.
So this is a modern rendition of the Lada. Blech.... Incidently the first stick car I ever rode in was a loaner red 510 my uncle drove in the early 70s. It was weird how the nameplate said Datsun but there was the word Nissan on many of the interior parts. I didn't get it at the time.

The 510 was no Fiat 124 or Lada. It was quite literally sports car with a boxy sedan body. Its success in rally and circuit racing (where they beat BMW) was due being well-designed and with racing in mind, NOT due to "availability".

I love this thing, I would totally buy one, but my concern is if they produce it how are they going to deal with the pedestrian standards for front bumper it doesn't seem like it would meet the req. And honestly I don't know anything about it, but if anyone want to educate me on it and tell me how it's going to work for this 510 im all ears.

Yes looks are important. Correction, Ghosn is of Lebanese descent and born/raised in Brazil. He moved to France in adulthood. I guess Nissan leaves a bad taste in his mouth. LOL

Looks are important to me too. But they do not define the most important aspects of what a car is and how it performs.
You implied that since the 510 *LOOKS* (to you) like a Lada, that it must only be as good as a Lada as a racer/rally car. Ridiculous! The 510's engine, chassis, and suspension are far superior to the Lada's. And then you stated that an 80s Sentra looked "similar" and suggest that since the Sentra was a piece of shit (in your estimation), that the 510 must have been as well. Absurd! Totally different cars. Yes, looks are important, but if car A looks like car B, that does NOT mean that it shares other characteristics with it. Personally, I like the looks of the 510, it's styling is understated but well-proportioned and neatly detailed. And I love the idea of a sports car that looks like a boxy sedan So now he's French. Hence the scowl. |
