Bittersweet I bet. Relieved that you don't have to deal with the repair process but sad that your car is gone. At least the end result was what you wanted.

Sorry for the loss, hope you enjoy whichever car you get next.

I know an unpleasant experience, but glad it is officially totaled so that you have the insurance money to allow the most options on what direction to go next.

Here's hoping the insurance process is relatively painless!

Please keep us posted.

Lockton Affinity will pay for the VIR damages anyways, so they could have been $10,000 and he'd still be fine

I thought they covered first party property damage and not liability? That is good news for when I go to Barber, where my landscaping bill would be more than the total loss value of the BRZ lol

A buddy just wrecked his turbo integra at VIR. They covered all VIR damages, UHaul rental to get the car back to Maryland and the gas for the UHaul.

I haven't. I've even raced there for 4 hours overnight. Went offroading some, but never crashed

The uphill esses/south bend is the one area you REALLY have to be paying attention to and do it right if you are fast. The rest of it is safe. You can screw up anywhere of course... but I'd bet 90% of the incidents at VIR happen in the esses/SB.

Great guy, who answered a lot of noob questions from me and gave me some great advice that helped me prepare for the event.

I must also say that when something like this happens at the track, it is similar to seeing a wreck on the highway. Folks of course are concerned about the driver's/passenger's safety first, but out of morbid curiosity everyone wants to see the "carnage" of the car. Once the car had been towed back to our paddock area, there were crowds of folks coming over to gawk and take pictures.

Wolfpack was much more patient and calm/collected than I would've been in the same situation. He let folks look, even answered their questions. And then he was the ultimate boss, and took the car BACK out on the track!

Anyway, just want to throw this out there: to all of us that go to the track....be respectful, and supportive when an accident happens. Please don't post pics on an internet forum until you get permission from the driver/owner. (Maybe this happened in this case, I'm not sure.)

While I hate that this happened, I'm glad Wolfpack is okay; and I know he'll learn from this and be back on the track. Good luck with repairs and keep us all updated on where you go from here!
Says a lot about this guy. Hope he stays in an FT86

And to be honest, back in the paddock afterwards, there was a point when I seriously considered packing up and going home. But I stuck it out and finished the day...and tried to learn from that mistake.

Witnessing what happened to you Patrick and the way you handled all of that....inspiring to say the least.

Oh, and next time, I will be purchasing track insurance.
Out of curiousity, how did you spin off there? Long slide from the kink? Or rotation under braking? I've seen people go straight off T1 and to the left of T1, but never to the right going into T1 (except in a case of oil on the track right after the kink resulting in a loooong slide).

I've had one slow spin like that. I didn't realize until the car was 10 degrees left that it was rotating, the car felt perfectly normal. 100+MPH slide at Sebring. I reacted quickly enough to straighten the car before driving off into the grass though. There's a ton of room at that spot anyways.

Snapping is more dangerous but at least it's OBVIOUS I've had the BRZ snap on me in T1 at Sebring, still not sure how I pulled that one out without a spin/damage.

This was nagging at the back of my mind.

You say you took that crashed and burned car back out onto the track and ran it at SPEED?!

And they PERMITTED that?

And did the original instructor, the one you tried to kill, ride with you the second time out?!

And I was careful about that turn!
I'd have been careful driving that wreck faster than 20 mph! Who knows what the fire melted?

I also got a lot of compliments and thumbs up later from people for being so persistent.
That was brave, all right.

Not me, mon.

I'll bet @Dave-ROR would not have permitted that. Heh.

[Note: This is all intended in good fun. You all survived, unscathed no less, and that's all that really matters in the end. Let us know what you replace this car with, won't you?]
