It was never really together to begin with. It was doomed from the start with very little effort put into the promotion of the event by the organizer. Then the fact that the majority of the locals have given excuses not to participate in the event when it's announced well in advance...

It sucks because I am sure a lot of people are in the same boat as me. I own a motorcycle helmet that I can use for NASA events or SCCA events, but I do not own a SA rated helmet. I am going to my first track day on Friday which requires an SA rated helmet, but they rent them also (I know that would be hard with a club). In order for me to do this track day, I would have to fork out the money for an SA rated helmet. Which I don't mind doing if I know I will be attending more events (this question for me will be answered by Friday). But if this is your first track event that is asking for a big investment if you only plan on going to 1 or 2 track days a year.

Here's the SA helmet I have which is $250 shipped with a free bag and also available on site at AMP from Discovery Parts.

Maybe I will get a chance to run over there on Friday and try some helmets on. I can't wait for Friday!

Attending track events is always going to be a big investment. I make good money, but I still have to plan out what track events I am going to attend at the beginning of each year and plan and save accordingly. I leave room to add one or two should the need arise, but if this is something you truly want to turn into a hobby/lifestyle, then you need to plan and save.

As far as this track event, if the organizers can still get Scion to sponsor the cost of the track day, then I would recommend they go that route and get as many FR-Ss out there as possible.

Next year I will be approaching it much the same way (if I take this up as a hobby). I fully expect that this will become my new "big time" hobby, but until I do my first track day I do not want to invest any more money than I must. I feel like a bunch of people are in the same boat as me. They would like to do this but don't have a helmet. I have already done a handful of autocrosses this year and loved it, but the whole waiting 6 hours for 5 minutes of track time is kind of annoying. I think a track day will be a lot more fun.

It will be, and if you still want to volunteer like they force you to at SCCA AutoX, then the NASA programs (Mid South and Southeast) have great volunteer programs where you can volunteer as a corner worker or other job for two events and get one event free to keep costs down.

I don't think this event is happening anymore so you're not missing anything. Not enough promotion or interest from this community to commit to the kick-starter before the 9/20 deadline, which was last week.

Yep. The unfortunate reality of a car priced as this car is means that the majority of owners can not afford to attend track weekends without lots of prior planning and saving.
