The car is not that light guys... 2500 would have been light, close to 2800 and we don't even know if that means dry or wet. That's pretty heavy. People complain about the power because, it is LOW on it. A good power output would have been 230-240, a great power output for this car would be 300.

light compared to what? 90's tech?

Evo X is 3500lb

compared to cars in its own category, given it's functionality, it is light.

Then by that definition...an Isuzu Gemini a Chrysler Valiant, and Mitsubishi Galant are all Sports cars...

It really doesn't have a car to compare with unless you're talking about cars its size.

How much 'easy' power does the new 2.0T leave to be gained?

Good question. The engine currently resides in a 2.0t Sonata so I don't know if someone touched it yet since I am not on a Sonata forum.

The base curb weight is 3131. It's only 3500 when you add all the heavy bits, the giant sound system, the DCT, and whatever other crap they throw in that car. Think about how much the brz is gonna weigh with its navi and everything in there.

I would say as far as weight goes, compared to their original goals of 2500. it is heavy. Especially for the power it makes. Now if it was a 2.2 or 2.4 liter that made 220-240 and had roughly the same weight. That it would have a pretty good power to weight ratio. Right now the cars needs something, either weight reduction or more power. And to be frank its just much easier to add more power than to take away weight.

How the Gemini did not make Gran Turismo after those stunning performances has me baffled hahaha.

I figure they'll achieve only slightly better outputs as the previous, so gains aren't going to be as spectacular.

Do you even know how much gains was achieved with the old 2.0t on stock turbo? The stock whp is 180whp/190 wtq and with $1,700 it was making 230-240whp/295wtq. So if that isn't spectacular on stock turbo I don't know what is.

There was a guy name Jared who ran 15.1 seconds in the 1/4 mile stock and then spent that same amount and ran 13.6 seconds with less than 2 grand.

how long was this, is the car still running, have they put even a single cent into upkeep since then?

that 13.6 car, has anything broke yet, axle? clutch? any poped wires? Are the synchros still alive?

So often you read about these amazing success stories, but you never hear any check-ups on them.

It really isn't a serious build that come with much worry. Plenty of guys are doing it on my other forum. It is part of a upgrade pkg by a company who does R&D with a GC that belongs to the company.

That's kind of my point. I think they were maybe planning on gradually dialing the power up and leaving some for the 'tuners' but felt a bit threatened by the FT86 coming in with a better power to weight than the 210 hp 2.0T, so they jack it up pretty close to its limit.

With the guy SUB says going to ~230 whp, that's going to be pretty close to what the new DI goes stock. So part of the argument of (+60 whp for $2k) is going to be no longer, or less, valid.

Edit: (No 'Official' new thread for you welcoming yourself back, Exage? Heh... How was the boat?)

The new engine utilizes some new things plus D/I and a twin scroll turbo over the single scroll. I think there will be a good amount left on the table but not more than 60 whp I guess.
