the more I learn about/hear about the PNW the more opposite of a place it appears to be in just about every way(with the exception of that non-stop rain we've been getting the last year or so) from the South East.

I'm always amazed as to how different places in the same country can be from one another. Geography > Everything else.

Actually much of the PNW is very similar to the rural south. Just colder and a bit wetter. You get into the foothills of the mountains and you would think you were in Georgia, Tennessee, or Alabama.

I was referring to more of the human influence.

there's a good chance in the next year or so we end up checking it out. mostly for the not city parts. one trip to San Fran has given me my fill of homeless, needles and human poop in the streets.

I'm trying to take a trip every year to a place I've never been. although it's hard to just not go to Atlantis in the Bahamas every time. that was the best trip ever. perfect balance of relaxing and plenty of stuff to do.

I'm confused. I thought you meant the geography since you mentioned the mountains etc.

We do want to do a good Canada trip one day. I've only been to Montreal and I was on crutches. iirc it was May or June when I went. beautiful weather and the people I met were super friendly. The food was also great and I really liked the old architecture with the big city buildings. super clean too. I just wish I was in better shape when I went there. I really liked just about everything about it.

gotcha. rednecks are legit everywhere. upstate NY for example. there are parts that if I didn't know better I'd swear I was in rural TN.

indeed. I'm not a "big city" kind of guy but I like that place. most unique one I've been to. most others NYC, ATL, Houston etc all seemed basically the same only slightly different. imo they're more similar than different.

Depends on where you go in Montreal. There are sections that are identical to any other big city in North America. Of course you would have little or no reason to visit those parts.
