My guess is it isn't that complex. The seals are thin, not well adhered, and only across the top of the housing. Probably just a matter of time before we all get enough crap and water going that way to make them leak.

Windex is soap water and ammonia D. The ammonia D is different than regular ammonia. Ammonia D is a dessicant, but it is insufficient to remove the soap residue.
The interior of the tail housing will be a mess, as you will be adding a stain to the plastic, soap and water will remain, as well as the condensation. CERBERUS |

I finally got the chance to put on my gasket ninjas today and they are great. These are a very high quality item, much nicer than factory. I also appreciated the fast service and communication from @wdninja.
I didn't have enough of the sticky stuff to make the full dam around both sides, so I glued on the gaskets and did as much damming as possible and will add more tomorrow. The top of the lights w/ the factory gaskets was just a total mess of dried mud, leaves, and other junk. It's no wonder eventually those thin tape strips leak. |

Similar to what RFB has done, I also cover the gap between the tail light housing and the trunk channel, to prevent the water from hitting the gasket in the first place. I use waterproof black tape instead of the "snowman snot", but it's the same idea.

I ended up using some removable caulk, in the same location as wdninja's waterproof tape above.

Just had both of mine replaced at the dealer under warranty. A month ago they tried the "kit", but that actually made the problem worse. Apparently, the early versions crack where they are bolted to the car.
Will wash car later today to verify... |

Tail light condensation
I'm afraid it won't go away... I had the same issue and it is quite common.
Dealer replaced mine under warranty. Toyota knows there's an issue, but not enough to recall it. |

I had toyota/Scion dealer (Scott Clark South Blvd.) here in Charlotte, NC replace both taillights and gaskets even though only the passenger side was building condensation, they did it in about 2 hours last weekend.
I bought my 2013 FRS used with 23k, and 75k additional warranty. It was still covered it under warranty and did not cost me anything. |
