Google Map: http://goo.gl/maps/5f7LX

Bring FRS (Family Radio Service) radios if ya got some to share - set to channel 5-0 for communication. If we have a large turnout we will split in to separate groups of 7-10. As always, faster / experienced drivers to the front, conservative / less aggressive drivers to the rear. Newbys are welcome. We will make at least one stop during the route for a stretch break / photo shoot of our cars lined up. Past Bandera, cell phone service is limited. AT&T is the only carrier working in Leakey.

Our goal is to have a fun, safe cruise. There are several spots with radar so be careful on your way to Medina, Leakey and the area around Camp Wood.

Add your name to the list in the next post (below) if you plan to attend or want to list yourself as a "maybe". See you in Medina!

This was cropped out of the image download I got from Txmotofoto last week, thought I'd share in case anyone was on the fence about buying from them, well worth it in my opinion...

FRS Radios

It is nice that we are the only car with our own radios named after us...
Anyways - is anyone using voice activated hands free FRS radios?

I found it a pain to use the radio while driving, plus it was hard to hear.

Found this set on Amazon - has voice activated and headsets, plus a car charger - seems like it might work for drives....

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Midland-GXT1000VP4-36-Mile-50-Channel-Two-Way/dp/B001WMFYH4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379298563&sr=8-1&keywords=frs+radios#productDetails"]Amazon.com: Midland GXT1000VP4 36-Mile 50-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair) (Black/Silver): Car Electronics[/ame]

Any thoughts on how well these might work?

I've used voice activation headsets (weekly use) on some older Motorola units and the ambient noise from surroundings (live audience in an auditorium) would often set off the transmitter so would use the PTT (push to talk) feature to transmit. You'd have to run with the stereo at low volume for sure. Features say there are 9 levels of VOX on those so maybe Midland has addressed the issue of sensitivity. My experience is that it is even harder to hear over an earpiece than it is through the speaker in a noisy environment. The price is right on those Midlands for sure.

I purchased these before the last run: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0C9-00CK-00003

I am very pleased with speaker sound quality and battery performance on these. And, they are weatherproof if they are used out in the elements. Much improved over the older Motorolas I've used. 1300 mAh battery on these were major selling point. Battery level on the unit used on the run still showing fully charged.

Thanks - I was wondering how well VOX would work - from what you said - I guess it probably is not the answer! Thanks

^ ^ @tuckdaddy would be a "for sure" if there were 80 MPH signs on his daily travels and on the way to the sisters run!

I can maybe make it, I'll be working nights soon and switching to shift work as well so it will all depend on if I am off that weekend.

New York sounds like fun! There will be more sisters runs, Tuck. Thanks for the update on the OP, sir.

Friend of my son who (first time) ran the sisters with us on Memorial Day wants me to do a counter-clockwise run on Sunday, Sept. 29th. There would be a Vette, STI, 350Z, Mini, and an Abarth. He said he could use my navigational expertise...which means, lead the pack. I can't make it that day as I have something else scheduled. Told him I'd throw it out here on the boards to see if there would be any interested takers familiar with the run to go with them on that day. If so, PM me and I'll put you in touch.
