2000GT is a pure sport car. It was one of the fastest track weapons in the 60's, gaining several speed records in 72 hour endurance test. Hardly a gran tourer... Same for LFA. It is made for track, not bulevard.

No one does, but GT there does not stand for Grand Tourer, that's for sure.

GT pretty much always stands for "Grand Tourismo" or "Grand Touring". What that *means* is variable...

Cars are what they are whether people ascribe semi-arbitrary rules regarding what makes a car a "GT" or a "sports car" or a "supercar".
To some, "sports car" disallows anything with a fixed roof.
Then again, many people think big, heavy, powerful 2-door sedans can be "sports cars".

IMO, this is one of those issues about which one should not worry...

I think the point here is that people are going to cross-shop these.

Bingo!

Because some people see them as a small and medium size version of each other.

And like many others have observed, they'll be cross-shopped because they are in the same price range.

Porsche Carrera GT

I don't care what GT means, I like them all except the BMW.

Tons of sports cars have the GT designation. But like I said before I consider them GT/Sports cars. For instance, why the Carrera GT is called that? Why is the 911 GT3 called that even though it is featureless?

After all this long discussion, it's safe to say that definitions of what a sports car/GT/etc. have change much and nobody seems willing to stick with the traditional definition. In either case, I also agree that people will cross shop the FRS/BRZ with the GC based on price alone. Nevermind the performance factor, although I'm sure it will ultimately play a role. Since I'm here on this forum you should know which I favor, but I've driven the GC 3.8 and it was pretty good car, if they've improved upon that then I'd say it will be a pretty damn good car. Factor in what they're asking for one of those and I'd say they've got a winner...

Everyone has his own opinions. For me, features don't necessarily have much to do with it. A larger, heavier car is inherently going to be more comfortable and less immediate than a smaller, lighter-weight car.

Ferinstance, if you took an Aston Martin DB9 and stripped it of everything (no a/c, no stereo, windup windows, etc), that doesn't really make it more of a "sports car" to me. It's a decontented Grand Tourer. Contrariwise, a Lotus Elise featured up with seat warmers/coolers, dvd infotainment system, passenger foot massager, etc., would still be a "sports car".

To me.

Not that I get too hung up on the terminology! Call 'em what you will, they is what they is...
