Car runs fine. I want to point out that I ran this same track just as hard and just as many sessions this past April. It was freezing outside (upper 30's, low 40's) I had no issues during that event. Nor the event at another local track about a month later.

The only time I've experienced this CEL is during 85+ degree days.
I know its the misfire CEL I've scanned before, its happening the same way every time.
I will verify the code early this week.
I'm gonna be positive and vote you just heated up the coil packs! Glad she runs well. Do you have an oil cooler by chance?

I do not have an oil cooler. Im going to get one and a Koyo radiator before the next track day. (Sept 30th)
I've read about the coil packs heating too. Hopefully that's it.

seems weird, I have had my oil to over 270F way more than once and no coil overheat issues, why some cars and not others?

So I'm gathering that a tune (like EcuTek) rids detonation. This is a double edged sword however because if it does not fix the issue and you lose a motor over it, the dealer can see that you had a reflash.

The battle raging in my head is epic, to say the least.

You can also get a tune that has the latest Toyotabru calibration that has the supposed DI seal fix. This would at least keep you with a stock tune but it would seem ridiculous to have to pay for it from a vendor...

From my understanding and from what the tech at the dealer told me, thats impossible to do. I would need a new ECU. They are VIN specific. I have a May 2012 build date car. I would rather explore that option. Other than suspension my car is stock. I would like to keep it that way (tune and all)

I don't even want the oil cooler and rad, but they will happen.

*something I don't feel I made clear in my last post about my CEL on track yesturday:
All the CELs occured 4-5 laps into the session.

No, you don't need a new ECU. You would just need something like this and have the tuner re-flash your ECU to the newest Subaru/Toyota calinration file that fixes the DI issue:
http://www.ecutek.com/Products/ProEC...cion_FR-S.aspx

I know of at least one tuner who has access to the stock calibration file and has sent it to customers.

So essentially, buy Ecutek in order to get the newer calibration from Subaru? (basically breaking into Subaru's comfy suburban house when they aren't home and taking it since they wont give it up...I don't hate the idea)
I was told that the calibration is not something that can even be flashed. (or at least thats how I understood it)

So unless Subaru aknowledges this as a real problem (which they won't, ask any GR Sti owner) this is the option for 2012 build date cars?

It's going to be an expensive winter.

It is possible. Every tuner I've dealt with (4 different ones now) have all had access to the new rom with the fix applied.

Yes. There is at least one person here that worked with fa20club to get the new est stock (01C) calibration. This is what makes it ironic. The tuner market has access to something most dealers don't and it is clearly installed on newer builds from at least February, so the whole thing is rather ridiculous..

Indeed. Although I don't think you'll ever get Subaru to own up to it, short of a class action suit.

When it's hot I get a CEL.. But only after the session, usually pulling into my spot in the pits.. Almost always while backing into my spot.. I don't recall the CEL, but it's something about the cam timing I believe. Only other light I've had pop up is the Transmission light for over heating (auto) i do have the new ECU that was replaced back in April I think.. Otherwise no issues with the car.. When I do get the CEL it starts to idle like it would have a cam in a push rod type engine, like that lope lope type idle... Once cleared it goes back to normal

IIRC on iwsti.com there was talks of a class action suit due to the GR STi's magical ringland melting abilities. Don't think anything ever happened though.

With our cars, this problem seems to be affecting only the early build cars. The problem usually only occurs when the car is tracked, so the number of people affected is even smaller.

Subaru wont be hard pressed to do anything about it because despite the marketing of the car, they dont support competetition driving.
Basically, we're f*cked.

They gave you a new ECU? I'm assuming with the updated calibration, or was it for something else?
