Because when someone says something like that, they typically don't LITERALLY mean "money is no object." Because in that case the 2nd gen car is better in every way. The only subjective part to is it looks.

Like I said maybe he could have phrased things a bit differently to make that clear but forcing it to be the main consideration wasn't his intent. The second gen is "better" in every way but those improvements are not as massive as some would have you think. It is more of a case of the same but improved. As has been said before though the comparisons are almost always against the early FRS and totally ignore many of the improvements and upgrades that occurred through the life of the first gen and the introduction of the two trim levels in the facelift cars. There are many that also say there were things such as the steering and facelift final drive that were preferable in the first gen. These of course are also subjective based on driving style and personal preference though. The only objection that I have raised is this oft repeated statement that people that still enjoy their gen one cars are only saying so because they can't afford a new one. THIS is why price keeps getting thrown back in the mix.

It's not a drastic difference (not like the hydralic steering on my old BMW vs BMW electric steering) and frankly can be called subjective. But this was a small step backwards from my limited experience driving a 2nd gen model as well as from multiple people with experience with both cars.

The people who are saying that think buying a 2nd gen and putting on BC coilovers and rep wheels is some kind of flex. IE, fritattas.

Now that a Prius is faster than a 1st gen, there's really no reason to stick with it

There are things that can be done to make a gen 1 much faster than a Prius.

Not sure about the new Prius rating anyway. Is there a RWD version I am not aware of? "Toyota says the new powertrain is the reason the Prius Prime can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds. The AWD Prius can do that sprint in 7 seconds, and the FWD model can do it in 7.2 seconds."

Here's the reason,or at least mine. My car is fully paid off and I'm completely debt free right now,and see no need to get back into debt, just because I can't go faster on public roads than a new Prius. |
