Mine hasn't made the noise yet at 550 miles, but it sounds like eventually it will.

If its normal noise and not a sign of anything wrong with the motor, then what's the big deal? All cars have unique/annoying noises. I would rather have the noise then an engine cover/noise insulation = added weight/materials.

Normal is relative. The sound is quite intrusive and grating.

Just got my car back from subaru. The regional tech rode with me and documented the tweet noise under driving condition. He said it could be related to the chirping at idle so he recommend focusing on fixing the chirping noise first. He also took the car in the garage and listen for the source of the chirping noise. He said the noise is coming from the direct injection high pressure fuel pump. He offered to order a new pump and see if that will fix the noise. I told him if it's the same pump he is replacing with I'd rather wait and see if there are any new development from corporate (maybe a new fuel pump design). He did say its a known issue and Toyota is taking the lead at finding a solution. If I hear anything new I will keep you guys posted.

Glad to have joined the forum today and read this thread so I know I am not crazy. My car (#260) is at 600 miles but started making that sound within the first 100 or so miles.

Chirp started at 1500 miles after a spirited evening drive.

Thanks! I agree, I'd rather wait to see if/when a replacement is chosen rather than simply replacing it with the same pump.

Clearing some glass off of a parking spot and, yep, chirping away.

#1299 and I have chirping. I'm currently at about 640 miles; don't recall if it has really happened prior to today.

Chirping here at about 1200 miles, though I never noticed it until I found this thread! Seems to only happen at idle. Strikes me as being in the "curious/irritating but not serious" category.

I posted this in the FR-S general forum but just a heads-up…

I added 50ml of 2-stroke oil to my last fill-up and it killed the crickets within 30 seconds or so.

I'm curious as to how long that lubrication will work on the noisy washer but I'll keep you posted.

3500 miles on mine. It's still chirps sometimes, sometimes pretty loudly.

2900 miles.
Crickets at idle 1/3 of the time.
Chirps when I completely let off the throttle after accelerating 1/3 of the time.
If it chirps, crickets always follow.
Not terribly annoying. Obviously something to do with the high pressure fuel pump.
If a fix is issued, I'll definitely have it done. Otherwise I'll just need to make the intake and exhaust loud enough so that I can't hear it.
