Being a successor doesn't mean you have to carry over the old name. This car should have a brand new name.

Didn't say it should be called a Corolla GT-S, just that it'd more sense to call it that than a Celica.

And Sprinter Trueno seems too esoteric, the average buyer would have no clue what that was. Plus as far as an actual name, never thought it was a great one =)

I kinda like 86. "I drive an 86"...it sounds good to me.

I also like FR-S, but the numbers 86 should be in there somewhere...

The average consumer wouldn't know what the "86" meant either

+1 on 86 name. Remember that Toyota took off the "-" and called LF-A concept, LFA.

What is Trueno from?

They can't use Sprinter because Mercedes owns that outside of Japan (or at least in North America), for their diesel van.

Because nothing brings images of an athletic Sprinter like a diesel cargo van or motorhome...

We do. Probably more than one actually.

Agreed. And I'd love it to have an actual name, this alpha-numerical bullshit is highly annoying. 2000GT and MR-2 were acceptable, but I think a real names adds a bit of character to a car.

Toyota Corola Levin, Sprinter Trueno. Corola and Sprinter were Toyota's twins and the Levin and Trueno were the "sporty" iterations.

Trueno = Thunder
Levin = Lightning.

I actually wouldn't mind it being called simply the Toyota Trueno or Toyota Levin. A completely new and engaging name would be ideal, but if they should go with an old name, celica would be most ideal due to the marketability of the nameplate. In the US it does have some kind of stigma (for enthuiast, but I believe the potential sales benefit would out weight that) I guess, but every where in the world Celica is synonymous with Toyota's bad ass small coupe, recognized as much as the Supra.

Now, where's that old name thread?

Sweet... Sorta hard to vote on 1 when it includes 3 different names though..... IMO 'Sprinter' from those choices anyway. However i guess 'other' is best fitting cause i would prefer it keep the heritage 86 somewhere...

They wouldn't know it was a RWD grocery getter (most probably don't know if something is RWD or not anyways), but Corolla is a familiar name, GT-S was used not only for Corollas, but also Celicas over the years. Definitely more familiar than Sprinter Trueno.

And that poll had no option for something with "86" =(

Cuz I highly doubt they gonna make number names... unless it's gonna come out on Lexus

You are pretty good at missing the point. Anyway, Corolla is not associated with a sexy coupe.

**You at a bar**

Cute girl: What do you drive?
You: A Corolla eight.... hey where are you going?
