I jumped ship to a 2014 Evo mr when I faced the same situation. Different strokes for different folks, but it's been a blast to drive in and out of traffic.

I'll add my 2 cents! Buy what you can afford and meets your needs. My suggestion is buy a used mini van like a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna and call it a day. Kids grow up fast.

I just bought an Audi A4. Cheap insurance. Very safe. Handles well for a heavy car. 6MT is great. Plenty of aftermarket support. You honestly have to drive one though. Looking up specs doesn't tell the story.

If OP cant hold the frs and other family vehicle then he can buy whichever van/suv wife's like
and buy a miata for weekend toy, cheap parts easy to work.
I started to considere the vasectomy lol
