I get a lot of flybys -.-. People think they're the drift king of la just cause their car can accelerate faster than my Manuel tranny.

To the OP, I hate tailgaters too. Because they put my life (and my passengers) in danger!

And before I get the "move over" comments, my usual situation is I'm going 70-75 and passing the slow lane traffic at a pretty rapid pace. If I'm unable to easily move over, I use a combination of slowly letting off the gas & window washer. Mostly I just sigh and assume they are having a bad day and I'm not and move over when I can.

I often wish I had a second window squirter, but aimed straight back at their grill and I'd fill it with something that smells like a fart from a dead skunk.
I did what you did. Usually get them to back off so I can slow down and safely move to right lane. But yesterday this guy in a pick up was seriously going to hit me and take off. He got so pissed when I did the windshield wiper trick cause he was literally 4 feet up my ass doing 70 in a 55 zone. I tried to slow down and move to the right safely so I can let him pass but he wasn't about to let me do that. He cut to the right lane tailgate the other car right by me, then cut in front of me and took off. If I didn't brake hard and slightly move left it could have been bad for me.

Funny, thought I was the only one that empties out the windshield washer on fools riding my ass

Uninsured Motorist coverage dawg... I've been rear ended twice by uninsured people and it's the biggest pain in the ass without it.

I only tailgate slow people. Especially those in the left lane doing 10-20 below the speed limit.

Back in the day, I was leading a small, 5 tank convoy, through the countryside in Germany, when my trailing tank commander radioed that a crazy person in a Mercedes was tailgating him and acting stupid.

Since we were late to the other part of the training area, I didn't want to stop, so I told the TC to just swing his main gun around and point it at him.

He did and comrade in the Mercedes backed off about a 1/2 kilometer.....

True story ..... however, a word of advice to young Army officers ... don't give orders like that ....

An easy way to make them back off is to cover them with tire smoke

I can't imagine the thought process behind the guy in the Mercedes: "I'll make this tank go faster if that's the last thing I do!"

Or maybe "I'll intimidate it .... after all, I drive a Mercedes" ..

One more "war story" .... also true.

In a company convoy, I would put the M-88 tank retriever last in line. Now, this vehicle had an air cooled, V-12 gasoline engine that produced over 1,000 HP (at the tracks).

I was leading in my jeep, when I heard several loud "pops" (more like mini-explosions) from the end of the convoy. Then, I got a radio call from the M88 track driver, that he had just "backed off" some civilian vehicles that were tailgating him.

Well, did you ever cut the ignition on a gas engine then turn it back on to make it "backfire"?

Guess what the M88 driver did .. ?? Hint: the two grates on the back, cover the exhaust pipes .....

(I'm sorry - no more old stories - for now .. )

I love people who tailgate me on a single lane road, I gradually go slower and slower and love knowing how frustrated/angry they are getting. The best is if they do finally manage to pass you, and end up sitting right behind them at a stoplight a mile or two down the road; then I get to give them a little honk and a cheerful wave hello!

Sorta busy highway? Drive even slower, brake early, 4+ cars in front of me. There's not point tailgating when traffic will not allow you to travel appreciably faster than I already am.

Pretty much what I do. I do around 80. If someone wants to go faster by all means let me get over so you can take what would've been my ticket.

Although what bothers me even more than tailgaiting is people that ride in the passing lane and don't get over. Drives me insane. That is when I will become the tailgaiter real quick. That is unless it's clear they have no where to go. In PA it is illegal to be in the passing lane unless you are passing.

Smoke grenade launcher would've sufficed.
Of course, there's the cost to the taxpayers....

I like to speed up, or down, to the closest car in the side-lane(s), blocking the tailgater off from overtaking.

Now, sit back, direct your eyes towards the rear-view mirror and enjoy the show.
