Noob question: Could you get a crankshaft that reduces stroke length to lower compression? Is this ever effective or used or do people just get lower compression pistons?

The best way is pistons, the cheap (crap) way is thicker head gaskets.

I wonder if Subaru will offer a turbo aftermarket (if that's what they go for in the STi, of course), like TRD usually does with their S/C.
Considering that the compression ratio would almost definitely need to be dropped, I kind of doubt it, but it's nice to dream. The main thing that would hold me back from FI is the drastic amount of changes that would need to be done to the engine to handle it (pistons, ECU, 3" exhaust system, etc.), even if I'm already considering a tune to smooth out the torque dip of death.

I wouldnt think Subaru will Turbo the car as from a marketing approach would say it would eat into WRX sales.
I dont think there will be anything from Toyota also because again i believe they will reintroduce the Supra as a more expensive forced Induced car. Both companies will retain both models as price conservative high volume sporty cars. Look what Mazda did, they were in ruins and then released the MX5, With the sales they were able to introduce the RX8 and the revamped 3. |

I think the cars are for different enough crowds and an STI version would be even lower volume than the WRX STI version. It would likely be between 32-35K so that prices it out of reach for a lot of folks. Subaru makes three levels of Impreza, I don't think you'll see that with the BRZ probably only two.
Subaru isn't going to make a bolt on turbo upgrade. They have never done that and there is just too much to change out. The compression ratio is the big issue IMHO. The car already requires premium gas NA, I think a piston swap will be mandatory to be safe unless you are willing to run E85 all the time, which you could do, or some kind if race gas. |

If I was to chance boost on this high compression engine it would be a positive displacement S/C. Such as a eaton mp62 or a jackson. Simply because there are no kits available and S/C will be cheeper and simpler to install.
These superchargers also only come on during wot which is great for when you need power and youll keep your daily mpg. Id prefer a factory sti turbo brz though. |

I think the centrifugal charger is the best option for the space constraints. Easy, compact, self-contained, no extra oil/water lines. Less heat to deal with.
But I also think a larger turbo BRZ would be nice. I have a 6262 bb on my SR20VE in my sentra. It's amazing, 10psi made 365whp. 19psi made 517whp. I have no custom tune either. Rom tune from jim wolf technology. The response is terrible under 4k rpm. But when the big cam lobes kick in (ala vtec) it hits boost instantly. Once the turbo is spooled, the response is near instant. |

Personally, I would prefer a Supercharger on a car with reflexes this sharp. Throttle response is paramount.

Noob Question
Really noob question, but I heard people talking about running E85 to compensate for the high compression ration. Is that true?

I'm currently working on a turbo kit. Its very simple to get that low end torque with a turbo when setup correctly.

Rotrex would be easy.
The way i see it , remove the bid resonator and that tube. Make a bracket to the left of the alternator and put a restrictor on the inlet and feed the TB. Low psi , no intercooler , stock internals and hell maybe even the stock ECU could handle it. 5 psi and you will definitely gain 50 -70 Hp |
