Your first observation may be correct ..... the second theory .... not so much so ....

I figure a black car absorbs more heat from the sun, therefore making the engine compartment hotter, requiring the fans to run more, drawing more electricity that works the alternator more .... sapping power form the engine.

In addition, the passenger compartment will heat up more with a black car, requiring either the A/C to run more (sapping power) or the driver to run with the windows down, creating more drag .... so there ....

Hey there, welcome to the club mate. I also own a Raven. If you really care about the paint. you should start to learn how to detail your car. This means you will have to put out some money for a decent DA polisher and whatnot. Buying products is the first step.

Second step is learning: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLwbdntRPu4&list=PL4ju56j0wCCV2aNDZf93yUvI YW90Y5KoR"]Adam's Polishes Vol. 8 - Chapter 22 - Claying and Prep - YouTube[/ame]

That link contains all the knowledge you need to keep your car lookin like a mirror!

Othere then that, congrats on your new car! Made a great choice =D
