i would second the motion for running on sundays. it is a completely different atmosphere, but i personally love it.
its also fun to see how even though you are running the same course backwards, the course could be completely different. i do remember seeing your car on saturday even despite showing up at lunch time HAHAH

Ah, didn't know the course was ran backwards, that's really awesome. Must be interesting.
And yeah, that was pretty embarrassing. I was waiting for my buddy so we could caravan over together, he's been before but it was my first time. We ended up getting in at, what, 8:30 or so? It was pretty bad. Now that I know how everything works, I'll be getting there on time regardless ![]() Your FRS is pretty killer out there, I hope to be running that well soon. You're just running catback and new wheels/tires, right? Didn't look like much else was done to your car. |

Oh, another question for you guys. Brake pads? I don't see the need for BBK's, and with my wheel, it'd prove to be difficult, anyways. I was looking at the Winmax w3's, don't know exactly what to get as far as brake lines goes, just any old SS brake lines? I forgot to ask Max what he ran that day. I also scored a few cans of SuperBlue brake fluid, because, well, it's blue.

My setup is OEM stock - nothing else really needed for Autocross.

I know the Winmax W3's are popular, but i haven't had an issue with the stock ones, so I haven't bothered spending any money there yet.

Interesting race in drying conditions today. Thanks to Jeff Cashmore for being my tire warmer which allowed me to take the win on my last run. The car was almost undrivable for him on old Hancook RS3s in the cold/damp conditions, and only by getting to cycle through quickly on my last run, was I was able to keep some heat in the tires. Initially called as dirty, the cone was taken after the course worker admitted he called the cone on the wrong Subaru!
By the last run, the car felt really good and I liked the way the diff felt in the wet. We have been talking about trying a more aggressive version, but Jeff thought that might be hard to handle in the wet. It's hard to tell though, as my tires are so awful. Hopefully we'll have some new tires for the next event at the end of March.

I need to get out to the next event! I moved down from Utah last month. Been itching for autocross.

Did you notice if you were able to run the front bar on the full stiff setting? I have the 20mm version (which is probably dimensionally the same but thinner), and if I try to put it on the stiffest setting the blade extends too far and will hit the control arm. I think this is because my coilover struts (like the MCS) have the sway bracket closer to the knuckle mount.

Hey Max, sorry to use your thread for troubleshooting, but since you have nearly the same setup, I thought I'd ask.
Do you have any rattle/light knocking in the rear, when going over holes/bumps on the road? I disconnected the swaybar, so I know that's not it. And the noise went away when I put the stock shock/spring combo back on, so it's not the SPC lower arms. This leaves only the MCS shocks with springs and stock mount. Spring is preloaded, the mount is on nice and tight, so I'm sorta grasping at the straws here. |

For this last weekend, I was able to try some 235/40/17 Toyo RIR's. Initially, they were off the pace of my old RS3s which always work very well at El Toro, but after some scrubbing in, I was running about the same times. However, the car was much easier to drive on the Toyo. Whether, the 255 sidewall is just too squishy which causes some odd bouncing or not, I don't know.
So, while the Toyo was no magic bullet, I liked the way the car felt and the handling was perfect and combined with the OS Giken diff, I could be more aggressive with the throttle without fear of kicking the rear out to far. I'm looking forward to the San Diego Tour and El Toro Pro in the coming weeks. Winning run in STX : My run in STX - looking forward to more of you guys coming out. It is addictive.
