That's some damn fine talent, nice unmasking. I think the lines are fairly correct but the shading is off some. That's not really your fault though, since these wraps are created to deceive and these front-on angles tend to look very 2D when turned into a flat color. For example, look at the picture above. It looks way more rounded.

I'm not that good at Photoshop, but I may have to take a crack at one of these.

Do you think car brands would waste time applying 'camo' that doesnt work?

As of this moment I am not too impressed over what i see, and i think thats mostly because the car is wearing the confusing camo.

I think for Halloween this year I am going to go dressed like this:

Edit: I'm sure some of you know everything that goes into a prototype testing to production car but there was a good video on youtube by BMW about their process. Fast forward to 3:11 where it talks about the use of hard camouflage vs. the wallpaper stuff. Pretty interesting their whole prototype to production process.

It's not new. It's called Dazzle camouflage.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dazzle_camouflage

Interesting read. Was apparently used in WWI.

Quote:
Dazzle did not conceal the ship but made it difficult for the enemy to estimate its type, size, speed and heading. The idea was to disrupt the visual rangefinders used for naval artillery. Its purpose was confusion rather than concealment

In the video at least the BMW guy called it a "new inovation" at 3:42. I'm sure the idea came from somewhere else but within the car industry it seems to be the new thing to do instead of the hard camouflage.

First of all, amazing chop. That hood cutting across... argh. I don't mind the last-gen Z4 tail lights, but that hood kills the sportiness of the concepts. It's as though that hood took no thought in having it flow with the design, sigh. I don't really see why they couldn't bring the opening down lower as in the MKI.

I said this in another post, but I think the word "mule" isn't being used accurately. A car mule is when a prototype car is borrowing existing sheet metal to hide the design while testing out the chassis. Using an MX-3 shell to test the FD RX-7 is a classic definition of a "mule." Using an Impreza body on the FR-S chassis is also a quintessential mule.

This doesn't really seem like a a mule, because it's using an all-new body. And it seems unlikely that the body will change significantly, barring some drastic change of heart. If they wanted to tweak the body, that's why they use full-scale clay models (and sketches). The transition to sheet metal typically means the design has been locked down.

Good points. I'm not sure on the first usage of Dazzle camouflage in the automotive. If it is BMW congrats to them.

It really is amazing how successful that dazzle camo is at distorting everything.

Btw thanks for the wiki link. That was an interesting read about it's use in WW1.

You can due a hue color alteration and turn all red into blue.

If there is anything else red, you can draw a border around the shirt and then just alter the hue in that area.

So, it is easy.
