Quick update - I ran a track day at Mid-Ohio yesterday. I had 7 or 8 20 minute sessions. Not that Mid-Ohio has a ton of heavy braking zones (with the chicane configuration) but the brakes performed great. No fade and very consistent. Unfortunately with running the heavier wheels/tires they are working a lot harder. I think they'd feel real nice with some lighter wheels. My wheels are 22lbs up front and 23lbs in the rear. Plus extra rubber (235/255)

Still holding up great had 4 sessions today at Summit Point - Shenandoah Circuit. I might try some different pads. I rode in a workers car who had AP Racing brakes and I was a little jealous, those things are the real deal. Part of it might be sitting in the passenger seat, but I was impressed.

Well I did have some issues but not sure the root cause.

- Brake Fluid wasn't completely flushed (so a mix of RBF 600 and the OEM stuff)
- Rotors were wearing heavily from the BP-30 race pads (compound is probably from a meteor)
- VIR has some long straights

I'm in the process of rebuilding my brakes (new rotors, carbotech xp-10s, titanium heat shims, and completely flushing the system).

I think these might be a little limited with forced induction on a large track without brake coolers. I had no issue at Mid-Ohio or Summit Point but carrying speed of 135-140mph and slowing to about 40mph is a lot.

The brakes worked great but I think I found their limit. Probably a perfect set for non FI, the occasional HPDE type, or the autocrosser. If you're running in the advanced group of a HPDE and have FI, you will likely feel the limit of this brake set up. I chose to rebuild because they have been great otherwise. Perhaps down the road I might upgrade to the wilwood BRZ kit. For under $1K, you can't really beat this kit. The only downside is that it isn't a popular brake kit anymore so parts/support will fade over time, where the BRZ/FRS kits will be strong.

I see Wilwood says that this kit will fit 15's. Oh lawdy, that opens up pandora's box, with respect to baller 15" wheels.

And dat weight saving.

My decision is made.

FWIW I measured the template against the 16" OEM RC spec wheels, and they fit inside the wheel, but fouls on the inner spoke. Measured that an 8mm spacer would be required, say 10mm to be safe.

I also don't believe it will fit under a 15" wheel, even though wilwood say it will. Although I'll go grab one of the 15" wheels I have for the ae86, and measure against that.

I got around to installing new rotors and pads but Wilwood sent me two of the same side rotors. Should have the correct one in tomorrow. I'm going to be running Carbotech XP-10 pads. I think these will hold up real well for me. I don't plan on tracking again until next year. I need to get the intercooler upgrade for the Innovate supercharger.

Also - I might sell this kit used in the spring. I've got a good hook up on the 6-pot kit from Wilwood and I plan to track the car more in the future. I'm thinking better thermal capacity is a good idea. We'll see. I have brake ducts and tubing but not sure if I want to hassle with brake coolers.

I'd try to brake ducts/cooling first...

Especially if you already have them..

Yeah I do, I just don't have the rotor backing plates yet. I'll need to see if I can fit with the oil cooler and intercooler. I don't want to fuss with routing through the fog light inserts since the washer fluid reservoir is in the way. I'm confident that would all be suffice. We'll see, just a thought.

Do you need a specific backing plate to suit a particular kit?

I'm not all that sure on how a brack ducting kit goes together to be honest. The inlet is obvious, more so the outlet. Getting it close enough to put the air where you need it, but not so close it will melt with the heat.

Wow, I did not know that. I've been thinking of just going with the AP Sprint kit. Even though it's heavier, it just works so well. I have yet to hear anything bad about them.

But... if I could save weight on the BBK and get some tiny ass wheels...
Hmm...

Thanks a lot! You're the first person that's said anything specific about benefitting from them. Hopefully more people are and they're just being quiet.
